Hi everyone

I am in the process of replacing my battery and would like to hear from others who have been in a similar situation.
My K100 currently has a Toplite (Yausa) 50309? battery and I am shocked at the prices I was quoted for a replacement battery.
Do I purchase another Yausa battery or are there alternatives. Some claim a battery from a golf buggy is acceptable.!!!!
I am interested in other people's opinion.

Regards
Gabriel

Toplite is the Yuasa Taiwan brand, the 53030 is the recommended battery for our K bikes, I am not familiar with the 53039. http://www.yuasabatteries.com/pdfs/2010_yuasa_apps_specs.pdf is the link for Yuasa battery models and on page 18 you will find them listed by bike model, there is a more expensive YIX30L-BS fully sealed maintenance free version offered as an alternative for our bikes.

Battery size has been debated before on these pages but I am one of the if it fits bigger is better, brigade. 30 Ah is the recommended size for our bikes and I am happy with that, note some battery models have higher or lower Ah ratings but that can vary on the same battery dependent upon the discharge time it is rated over. I put a 53039 battery in about 4 months ago and was very pleased with the fit and quality.

Don't forget when you fill them with acid that even though they are dry charged you should give them a charge for 24 hours before putting them into service if you want maximum life.
Regards,

Golf Buggy Battery is functional if you haven't loaded the bike with absorbing items. Maintenance free gell and an easy fit. I put one on my K100 naked.

I purchased a Toplite 53030, 30Ah battery exactly 4 years ago for my RT. Cost at the time was $104AU. I haven't had any problems with it, never need to trickle charge it and I have left the bike for 5 weeks without starting over winter. Voltage usually checks out at 12.7 after about a week, then stays there. No water has needed to be added, and my charge light can just be seen glowing dimly under the southern cross, normal for a K bike.
So, 4 years for $104 is 50 cents per week. Not too much of an issue there, I could have paid $160 at the time for the genuine Yuasa but elected not to. I'd but the Toplite again I reckon.

If your battery tray has the narrow indent in it then another option is the excellent, sealed Yuasa YTX20HL-BS-PW which fits right in with the supplied plastic spacer or 'lifter'. The polarity is correct, 20amps is more than adequate on a solid stock charging system, and the remaining physical dimensions are spot on!

I give it, whether it shows signs of needing it or not, about a once-a-month 1.25 amp overnight charge and she's treated me golden for a year. With this technique I tend to get four or five years of use from either lead-acid or sealed batteries, of name-brand quality, on my BMWs. I did once get seven years from an Odyssey PC680, which at last report, was still going strong for the third owner of the battery. I obtained it as a year-old warranty reject from the shop I worked in at the time - in fact nothing was wrong with it. Those batteries have guts!
