i think i have resolved an issue ...maybe a yearning ,,,to do the "pacific northwest " san fran to seatle ...one day .....

About 770mi SF-Seattle, and for one day you really have to push it up I-5.

If you've got some time instead, take scenic Route 101 up through the Redwoods, then switch to coast highway Route 1 up through Oregon and Washington to the Olympic Peninsula. Then ferry boat from Bremerton to Seattle. There are plenty of places to camp along the way, and if you hit the weather just right it's a delight. sunny

Nice work Paul.
Was the camera strapped to your chest?
Only half way through the video. Watching at work and the connection is rubbish.

Where was Charlie? So far in front or so far behind?

Found him at 5:00

Now I am gonna have to get myself a camera. And drag out the old vinyl copy of Machine Head.

I was out yesterday too, Balhannah swap meet but I was also looking to meet Michael, remember him?

No luck there but I met a guy who was also looking for M ! Nice guy Jason, you can't have too many mates eh?

His best mate bought a brand new, just out, K100 in the day for his iconic Euro tour and had nothing but GRIEF.

Ruined his trip. He got it back to BMW and told them to keep it, put it where the sun don't etc.

THEY sent it to South AUST. dealer Pitmans and THEY did everything to rectify the faults. Needless to say he hadn't

"bonded" with this machine and traded out.

Back in the day those of us who rode BM's heard similar tales and were cautious as you would be.

History shows that the design was sound but let's not gloss over the reality, here in OZ they "boiled" the fuel tank!

FACT!

The Boxer, now called "Airhead" brigade are "blamed" for the slow uptake of the K. Well let me tell you guys,

we had bikes which performed well (I still have mine) so why would I buy a less than perfect bike?

It's a generational thing I know, just don't blame me for BMWs' F.. ups!

Rant over and totally contradictory to the above, Hows this!

wooohoo!!!! sunshine all around - Page 3 2013-110

I should have changed the oil and filter for the Far Kairn Meetup, I even had both so no $s drama right?

In true Aussie spirit I reckoned "she'll be right!" And off I went. Well half way through the trip, parked on some grass

or such I couldn't see oil in the glass! Any normal guy would top her up half litre or so at the next opportunity right?

Not Muggins. No, She'll be right!

I swear on a stack of holy books that I can't tell the difference in level from when I started the trip. 3000kms

And some new oil leaks, weeps, to attend to, sure. But .. But ? At 185,000 kms (showing) NO measurable oil use!

Ghost.

I pulled a K100 apart a few days ago and it had 400 000km on it and there was a very small wear lip of about 1-1.5 thou. The rest was also good except the ball and needle bearings were about had it.

Rossco and mr klompy its only fitting if you Sydney riders are doing video's then you will need the audio from Stone on your runs. I've got a lp album of stone it just needs someone smart enough to get it onto digital.

I should have mentioned the clip in the 1st post but I sure liked watching the suspension working on the side mount you can see the swingarm under the brake fluid cup moving and the front axle shifting up ad down as if sliding up the front engine cover. might have to go stick a deep purple album on now

whats a fantastic day for a ride in aussie

clear cool day with full sun out and no clouds at all that i could see

after a recent overhaul ...gerty spun over then fired up rather slugishly ...thats odd ....but i remember that its been almost a month since last start ...figures ..too busy with work stuff ..perhaps the battery was somewhat discharged over that time .

i had attempted a repair to a leaking oil filter cover plate on Saturday  replacing the screws (with stainless steel ones) to the assembly and  added some silicon sealant to them on application,  removing the chinese quality unbrako screws in the process ...had a thought that these screws were out of spec and too narrow a thread pattern -thickness )  ...(does the thread penetrate the sump cover ? letting oil pass ..was what i was thinking )

the job went well and suitably fitted up with no apparent oil leaks next morning

anyway, off up the hills ...on a glorious sunday at 8am .... really ..you should be here for our autumn ...its fantastic, once the rain has disappeared ,,, spurs the advertising slogan  "queensland ...glorious one day ..perfect the next )

destination  "Stanthorpe" and Rick G

the road was mostly clear and free flowing ...bliss ...and a good go at the "cunninghams gap " hill climb was enjoyed

stanthorpe "market day" was observed ...and then onto ricks

no no scones were found ...so a multilayer marble cake was aquired ...really ...no bakeries or such could be found ... disapointment

passed over irish shamrock logo stickers ,,,(been a while taken to get them there ) and picked up a set of "c" bars ...care of Gaz ..nindi gully ride ..and rick g

these things take time i guess

a good chat with rick was enjoyed although they wee both afflicted with the dreaded "lurgy" (cold symptoms )

homeward bound on the 180 odd k track in the afternoon was smooth and appreciated up around 4.5 k

and no sign of the oil leak ....wow  what  a day

Yeah , your right Charlie, this would be the warmest and best riding weather for Autumn we've seen for years, glad to see you took full advantage of it. I had a short ride to town and back for supplies ( bathroom reno going on here ) I cant remember it being so good at this time of year, feels like we're going into spring not winter.

global warming offering up some fantastic opportunities, good to hear of a successful outing there Charlie.
sounds like the silicone was successful providing for an uneventful ( mechanically) trip. well done.
with the rubbing off of the Irish , Rick and Marg should be on the mend real quick.
good luck with the bathroom Smithy.I'm still due to start mine.

will do dai ...

gimme a few minutes

near mount Nebo ...at Jolly's Lookout

over looking the Samford valley directly below ...further off and straight ahead  is Dayboro    a small village before the climb of the same range of hills (into or over the D'agular range  including Mount Mee) ...that surrounds the western outskirts of Brisbane

to the south the brisbane river traverses the now fairly flat valley floor

to the centre and right of the pic is the coast ...well in behind our closest island connected by a road bridge  "Bribie island "   further to the right is "Moreton island " one of several islands that form the bay around  the Brisbane river , Brisbane and the real ocean of the south pacific ...

from the lookout
wooohoo!!!! sunshine all around - Page 3 Pictur10
 some observations
wooohoo!!!! sunshine all around - Page 3 Pictur11

further up the range is Mount Glorious

and  some of the roads in this area of forest reserve

Thanks Charlie! It's just possible that the original inhabitants around Mt. Nebo originated from North Wales as there's two villages of Nebo within five of miles of each other (!!!) and another down in South Wales.

It strikes me as curious that the 'original inhabitants' might have come from North Wales. A mass migration we don't know about?

Good photos and great memories of our Esk trip. Yes Charlie I was there...right behind you at one stage when you were "shake, rattle and roll" trying to get the fuel into the correct part of the tank so you could get to the servo.

Lucky they called the state Queensland rather than New North Wales to match its southerly neighbour then. Emigrants weren't very original when it came to naming new places.

Cracking pictures Charlie - the start of your winter looks far nicer than the start of our summer up here.

After 40 years leading the headstrong Israelites in the desert, Moses stood on the windswept summit of Mount Nebo and viewed the Promised Land of Canaan...
~Deuteronomy 34:1

Brisbane (and SE Queensland) may not quite be the promised land, but it's pretty bloody close.
