I picked up a complete k1100 side stand at the boneyard a couple of weekends ago. It was all there but there was a significant wobble in the side stand.

I don't think the unit had been greased or lubricated since the day it left the factory. The jaws of the side stand yoke were badly worn...

I decided I had nothing to loose by building them back up with a bit of welding and filing that flat again. (sorry the pics of the work-in-progress are too blurred) but the end result was a big improvement....

A bit of thread recutting with the tap and die set was needed after my ham fisted welding but it all came good. I will have to replace the bush and side stand bolt too in order to achieve the best result.

A bit of paint and a centre stand lock ( a lá Sidecar Paul's design) and she'll be right!

The scrapper had removed the side stand by the time I got to collect the bits from him so I didn't get to see and photo how all the plates and springs go together. Does any one have a photo or diagram of the k1100 side stand assembly?

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers Bert - Items 12,15 & 16 had me confused. On closer inspection I see I need some bushings for the centre stand legs too. Looking forward to having this on the bike Very Happy

88KE I did this job a few weeks ago using new bushings and bolts, and Helicoils after drilling out the old centre stand bolts. I found that the k1100 side stand didn't retract cleanly into the rubber buffer on the silencer/muffler, and I have therefore used the old k100 side stand. The bike is much easier to get onto the k1100 centre stand, but also slightly more difficult to rock it forward off the stand.

Interesting comments SG. I may have to drill out the centre stand bolts on the K1100 stand too. Left it soaking for the weekend in penetrating oil but I'm not hopeful. You dint try to modify or change the rubbers to suit the k1100 stand?

The main stand bolts are Locktited. Heat them with a gas torch and they come out easily. I found this out the hard way after damaging the head on one of mine when I removed the stand to grease it last year.

The head of one of the bolts holding the K1100 centre to its mount had been sheared off before I got the stand. The other one fell off when I showed it an Allen key! Drilling out the main parts of both bolts seemed to be the only way forward, but I'll certainly use heat before I try to take the bolts out in future. Many thanks.

Well I've been stripping the bike ready to drill out the exhaust studs...see this thread. Whilst it's on its side I will have and ideal opportunity to fit the k1100 side stand. I got the new bolts circlips and bushes from motobins last week and fitted them but I forgot to order the side stand one, hop[efully the old one will fit and keep me going for a while.

k1100 stand as got from the breakers yard...

k1100 side stand on K100LT K1100_10

painted and ready to go (almost)...

k1100 side stand on K100LT Img_0416

Now I just have to figure out how the side stand retracting plates all go to gether. (the breaker had them off and handed me them in a bag so I didn't get to see them before dismantling.

The various exploded diagrams are confusing me a bit - I seem to have a right angle plate with a stop (top right of pic) instead of item 23 on the diagram CF posted, I also have a narrow spacer/bushing with a stop tab and grease nipple (centre of pic rusty brown) that I can't see on the diagram. Any pics would help me reassemble.

Thanks

nice job 88

the springs and stuff is exactly the same as the earlier type mate

so what you have is the pivot bar with the 2 springs on it attached to the spring retainer points on the side stand leg ....the retainer bar slots over a pin on the centre stand bracket

I think it's the odd bits I was given in the bag that threw me Charlie. I'll just follow the old one once I've got it off so. Wink

Just fulfill/confirm Charlie`s info.....part #1&2 is for activating the safety switch.......hmmm...safety....non retracting stand........which you don`t need...

As you see in the drawing, the part with the grease nipple is mounted on the underside.

The confusing part on the top right in your picture is an ekshaust mount on the K11, which you don`t need.
