Gents, and more particularly, my Aussie brethren, I just wanted to put it out there that if any of you need OEM bits 'n' bobs for your bike, are not in a rush, and don't want to have to pay the Aussie extra for spares you can't otherwise obtain from the boys at the 'Bins, Motorworks, Your Usual Sources, & etc., let me know what your needs are.

I have just ordered in a bag of spares like clips, trim, knobs, engine gaskets, emblems, small brackets, and the like for myself, which came to about USD$62.00 my cost....I'd previously priced this stuff in OZ at my cost to total nearly AUD$200.00! I'm not paying for the tyranny of distance. Not that much anyway.

The reality is that the US is such a big market compared to our puny little thing in OZ that BMWNA gets pricing that'd blow you away if you could see the difference. A rubber grommet that sells for $4.00 retail in OZ is .53 cents here. No joke. In addition, our humble gold dollar is at nearly $1.03 US against the Mighty Greenback today.

Also, there's a stack of used parts from a disassembled 1987 K100RS (and other models) upstairs in the well-stocked storage space. Items like 285mm brake discs, two-piston brembo calipers, hydraulic hoses, a seat and cowl, fairing panels, exhaust, gearbox, a remote reservoir Fox shock, engine covers, footpegs and brackets, and all manner of miscellaneous & etc. I also spotted a silver, 3 spoke 18" rear wheel if anyone wants to do the 'phat tyred lady' treatment to their 5 spoker.

Got meself some fine condition, original heated grips with leads, a pair of 305mm floating brake discs, a pannier Z frame set (woohoo!), and a Monolever final drive (which I'm converting to R1200C ratio), for purty near next to nothing.

So, new and second hand parts to be had for less. My cost plus shipping for me old and new mates. Let me know your needs, don't be in a hurry, and I'll see what I can turn up for you mob. I should mention that the boss has told me he's happy to clear out some of the excess secondhand parts.

Thare's nuthin' loike a little 'onest plunderin' when you've tha rare "opportunity". It'll go ta waste otherwoise.
:pirat:

Cheers, me hearties.

Mmm Mmm I knew sucking up to you would work out. Ha.
When you get a chance I'd like to price a replacement rear disc and carrier if possible, I'm using Alby's spare at the moment and feeling a bit guilty. 85 RT.
And I don't suppose there's a right hand switchgear anywhere?
Hope you've settled in mate , you'll be missed in October.

RT, got one (a rear brake disc) but it's measuring closer to 3.0mm than 3.5mm minimum, and tapers off rather nicely to a fine point. You could buy it and major in Frisbee technology at the local uni...

No RH combi switch, someone's chopped the wiring loom to bits too. It wouldn't have had a headlight switch on it anyway, this being the land of continuous headlight on for motorbikes since circa 1977 or so.

Like you I would like the gears from a 1200c rear drive.
And darn I just bought a set of K1200 cams for my rocket, arrived today.
By the way how do you rate the condition of the roads since you were there last time.

I can order in a brand new set of R1200C 33/13 (2.54) crown gear & pinion from Germany for less than US$400, but am almost on top of a secondhand final drive with low enough miles, to disassemble and slip into my new/old final drive, properly shimmed, of course.

Let us know how those K12 cams go for you.

The roads seem to be in pretty good nick, but I recall some roads that had had a fresh coat of bitumen (it's not called that here) four years ago when last I was here, and already due to rain, cold and heavy traffic it is buckled and in need of a new layer. But I suspect the local and state governments are doing it tough due to de-valued properties (although tell that to homeowners whose rates haven't gone down accordingly).

My hunch is that with the proliferation of $peed and redlight camera$ in thi$ region the local gubmint$ have $imply found a new way to rai$e the rate$ on the average battler under the gui$e of road $afety as it'$ $o well done in Au$tralia.

Remind$ me of the old 'root up the bum with the rough end of a pineapple...'

It don't matter which end of the pineapple they use it still hurts. I see that CA is giving the heave ho to some of the state parks and Campbell Gruesome is talking the same here.
Just pulled the cams out of the packageing and they look brand new so they may be going in soon.

I'm knocking-up a list this very minute...we're not talking whole bikes are we? Wink

I just want the damned semi-circular clip that holds the fuel tank wiring connector to the fuel injection unit holder that sits behind the right-side battery cover.

Thanks GiTH!

The future upgrade pieces are coming at me fast 'n' furious! Yesterday I located a complete front suspension assembly from a '91 model to go with my 17" wheel, 305mm brake discs and 120/70ZR17 tyre. Then today I turned up both a 16 valve K100 motor with 60K on it, and a complete, unpainted belly pan and mount. I also found a K1100RS alternator that tests fine...more juice for my heated grips! At the end of the day my old 2 valve K100 will resemble a K1100RS but without a Paralever!

I might have to whack it all into a pallet and float it over on a freighter as flying it via the post will cost a right arm and a left leg.

RT, I got my last secondhand RH switchgear from Motorworks for about $55 posted to me Down Under. It's been on the bike for nearly two years now with no dramas. They're showing some in stock now for about ₤32...plus postage. That's AUD$47 plus postage at today's excellent rate of .66 Pence per OZ dollar!

GITH why not just buy a few bikes, pull them apart and scatter the bits randomly in a few crates and send them back here and tell the powers that it is yours and left it there in 07 when you left.

The gubmint want their cut of the game. Each part in the box has a description and a value ascribed to it. The lot gets signed off on by a certified US dealer as having $X value. If it involves anything with a VIN an individual must be able to prove ownershop (by state title or dated rego papers) for 18 months prior to applying. Our gubmint will then approve the importation but won't (can't) place a tax value on said item until it reaches our shores and is inspected. A licenced importer has different hurdles to the procedures imposed on individuals. At the end if the day, if it's got an official number it's a few burning rings of fire, a man in top n tails, and a whip cracked across your backside as you leap head first through the first flaming hurdle; there's no going back in that three ring circus, and like a day at the carnival, you'll wonder if that belly ache and a thinner wallet translates into "a good time was had by all."

If you need easy drugs, RT, we can press 'em into powder form and line clutch plates, starter brushes (a common problem), and if liquid we can fool the authorities by filling fork legs and saying that it's 10 weight. The only problem is if you want to include some 'asylum seekers'. No way to easily conceal what's right out in the open.
