Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style Imag0112
Need a pannier key? These are the codes I have left, some in multiples. Send me a PM and I'll shoot you a price plus postage. The top left piccie starts at 69 and goes down to 42, with some gaps.

Wow TWB its good to see that list up.When I was looking through the forum in the process of trying to find an 057 for BobW I remembered seeing a list of numbers on one of your posts back a while but then couldn't find it again.

To add to the list that you've got, the guy who had the 057 for Bob also has the following numbers; 40/42/44/46/47/49/50/51/52/53/55/56/58/59/61/65/67. He said he had some multiples but did not say which ones.

So if anyone is still looking when TWB's stash runs out they can PM me. I asked him if he was OK with me putting his contact details up on the forum but he declined, however I have continued to buy some odds and ends off him and would happily chase up a key purchase for others.

Cheers

Just for those who are unaware where to find the pannier key number, it's stamped on the side of the latch (when open); this case needs key number 53.

An 047 is needed for my Mystic panniers, if anyone's got one. The PO locked the Z frame latch closed then promptly lost all keys to the motorbike. I visited my local dealer and sifted through his entire early K/Airhead key bucket until I found two ignition/tank cap keys that work to the first detent, so I filed the notches slightly larger until the at first reluctant key turned further until lights came on. After that exercise was done I found a spare ignition lock cylinder with keys in my parts bin in the garage!

I have a single 044 and an 052 left, if anyone needs these.

In attempting to bring the obsolete pannier key info to one place I will link them here.

Here's what I've obtained. Most are quantity of one. Expanding the image shows the key number more clearly.
042, 043, 044, 045, 046, 048, 049, 050, 052, 056, 057, 058, 062, 063, 064, 065, 066, 068 & 069. I have extra 044, 045 & 052 not shown.
Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20170913
I'll remove the key numbers from the above list as they go away. I'm asking $10 per key plus postage. I'll shout the postage cost in the US. If you're overseas and need to work out how much postage costs, try this link US Postal Service International . My Zip Code here is 98424. Note that one 3oz plain 1/4" thick envelope costs about $3.33 on average to the UK or Australia.

A few weeks back an anonymous eBayer emailed me suggesting I have copies made of all of these so they are no longer unobtanium when sold off. I didn't reply but my smart arse response would have been, "Got an idea for you. You buy the lot of these keys - I'll give you a great deal - and become keymaster of the universe."

The commentor obviously doesn't know that a locksmith will charge $15 per copy as the cut isn't made at the edge but in varying widths and different positions along the key's shaft. It would take ages with a file on a blank, and I ain't getting rich with this little gig.

I'm probably missing something here ( normal for me Rolling Eyes ) but when I got my panniers the key supplied sort of worked on some of the locks but wasn't the correct key so he just made me up some new ones for about $25 which work great.

  Cheers

TWB, are you still looking for an 047 key for your Mystic panniers as per your post back in Sept last year?

If yes then I'll contact the guy in Victoria who had a few - might be a little present for you when you get over here shortly.

Cheers

What I have left are just a few now:

2 x 045
2 x 052
2 x 058

That's it. That's all.

It's kewl to have been able to spread them round the place. Over the past 18 months or so I've posted these keys to Japan, Italy, Mexico, OZ (the wizard didn't mind), Norway (sadly, not to Inge), the UK, Spain & various places in Los Estados Unidos.

Soon I will no longer be the key master. I'm OK wit dat. More time to ride.

It's very good to see that the supply of Type 1 pannier keys and latches is not exhausted quite yet! I must say that when I start a search for a part for my Airheads or various older K's, I usually turn it up somewhere. Being a long-time parts guy, it warms me heart to know that I can source a spare part for a bike over 42 years old....my 1977 R75/7, for example - bought new.

For the record, I have just six keys left for sale from my small horde. I'd had them on eBay for yonks and managed to peddle the majority. Now I want them to go away to a good home if anyone's interested or in need. I'm offering the last six, 2 x 045, 2 x 052 & 2 x 058, all of them for $30 plus postage. Within the States it's only about $3 for a US Post Office First Class envelope mailed to you. If anyone overseas or in Canadialand needs them, the Zip Code they'd leave from is 98354 so you can work out your postage... https://postcalc.usps.com/

Thanks for looking. Long live old Beemers!

These early keys are done from BMW, more than several years ago. I have a part number list for the new and the old part numbers. I hear tell they can be cut but have not had any luck, the variation in the keys is not the ridges but where the slot or groove along its length is cut and how wide it is cut. Most locksmiths turn up their nose at them.

Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20190311
Met up with Duck on 101 to hand him some leftover pannier keys and had a nice little burn through the lightly trafficked twisties. Here, stopping near Duckabush for a quick piccie. Apropos place name? Or was that stop nearer Dosewallips?
Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20190312
The commanding but serene view from Fort Duck, overlooking Puget Sound.
Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20190313
The Olympic Range is looking Wintery even as Spring approaches. It got to near 10c (50f) yesterday, though snowbanks from our recent storms linger along the roadside in Brinnon and Hoodsport, and even more further on in Skomomish, Union and Belfair, it felt like a Winter ride.
Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20190314
Returning home near five o'clock, I stopped to don another layer as the sun left the north-facing slopes along the Skokomish River, here at low tide. This part of the Puget Sound is known as Kitsap Peninsula and there are some excellent sweepers as the road hugs the inland sea's coast. It's best on a weekday but for some reason this Sunday arvo traffic was light.
Type 1 Integral Pannier Keys - early style 20190315
On my way up I decided to stay on the major roads so I'd have the twisties to return home on. I stopped briefly at the entrance to the Hood Canal Bridge, a water level crossing of approximately a mile and a half length. When I returned to the bike the ramp was closed. After waiting 40 minutes a fisherman told me a sub was passing under the bridge. Moments later a Coast Guard vessel appeared,  along with two tow barges, and then the conning tower of a sleek, grey submarine - just skimming the surface - came into view in the distance. I attempted to snap a photo of it but it was grainy and too far off. You'll have to satisfy yourself with my description, and this pic of traffic, stopped, waiting, waiting.

It was a fine two hundred-plus mile arvo ride. Today is warmer, might just have to get out on the road again, but unusually for this region, there's a large amount of sand/grit on the road surfaces due to the recent snowfall. Riding with caution, I'm reminded of springtime in the New England states of the north east US: potholes, salt and sandbars mid corner.

The K1300GT is a good, spirited riding beast with manners when required. A heated backside warmer and cruise is a nice feature, too.

Here's a Classic K Bike (91 K75S) with one of those new-fangled Japanese looking K bikes.  Location is in Brinnon on Hood Canal, about a mile north of the Dosewallips River.

Hi guys. I am new of the forum and looking for a first style flat pannier key, code 049. I am afraid Michigan is a bit far away from Milan, Italy, but let me give it a try!

Thanks in advance!

Just a heads up to whomever needs one that I am flat out of all T1 pannier keys as stated above in this thread, but that there's another member, also above in this thread, who does have them as recently as April of '21.
Cheers.

I am searching for advice, and possibly keys, for three mismatched city cases with type one locks. All three have different keys!

One "pair" of cases have 056 and 065. The odd spare box has 052

Do you see a way around this? I could remove locks and reapply in different locations if need be. Can all the locks be made to fit one key?

I am in Sydney Australia. I have written a PM to MW074 in Michigan but maybe someone closer can help?

Thank you
Michael

I put a set of type 2 locks on a pair of panniers that originally had the type 1
