On an impulse I bought a set of Pichler rear fairings last year for £40, but after consideration, particularly concerning the plank called a seat, I sold them on (to a forum member).

Am I hallucinating or is that fairing clearly what inspired the K1?

I saw the photo and had to swallow my barf. Fugly. The price would be perfectly reasonable if it were still stock in that condition with such low miles. But that thing .............

I'm with the mason, ugly, the Italians would die laughing at that " styling ". Still worth having with 7000 mls at the right price, strip the tupperware off and pay for the bike by selling the ultra rare plastic.

Yeah, I'm in the don't-like-it camp also! You'd have to drill into the fairing to mount up the crash bars (Might be ok if you never rode at night???), you'd have to REMOVE the fairing every year when you went in for rego renewal (to see the VIN), and theres no glove boxes, so where do you keep your disc lock, spare set of gloves, fuses, iphone charger, duct tape, zip ties, and screwdrivers?

Or maybe the point is that you don't actually ride it? Laughing

I have to disagree - I really like the Pichler fairings not least because they are unusual and different from the mundane and of an era.

The Z bars are still there so you can use the panniers for your gear.

But that's the great thing about the forum it takes all sorts and that makes it diverse and interesting..."Vive la différence"

Rendrag, what state do you live in? When I lived in Oz no one went out to my bike to look at the frame tag when renewing the registration. I lived in Queensland in the early 1990s, up in Cairns.

NSW, where you have a 'safety inspection' (including basic identity check) every year Smile

As compared to QLD, where you get it inspected when you register it, and noone ever looks at it again to make sure it's still legal (hence why so many 4wd'ers register their fourbies in QLD, *THEN* start modifying them stupendously!) Smile

I'm with both camps, nice styling and different, however not practical enough for me , yes rego checks do look at frame numbers here in NSW, or at least our region. Dependent on the inspector and how well you get on with them, some check numbers, some don't.

I've never found the need for crash bars.... I try to stay upright on the bike ... I do 75% of my riding at night and I've never had crash bars or auxiliary lighting on any of the 16 bikes I've had in the past 36yrs of motorcycling.

Note there is a small section of panel which can easily be removed to check coolant level, and for those that need to,VIN plate

I guess you don't really have anywhere really remote over there :-p You wouldn't to go more than 30km out of a city without *decent* (we're talking > 1000 lumen) driving lights here Smile Otherwise dollars to donuts, you'll be wearing a roo pretty quick! Smile

Mine had bars when i bought it , offed them for a cleaner look . For the price i paid who cares if i drop it ? My other bike is another matter , boxer engine , bought new , irreplaceable .
I too am not in the habit of laying it down , experience helps.

Back on topic ........ the Pichler is still ugly , BMW used wind tunnels for the R100RS bike and some of the bricks (?) certainly the K1.
Pichler ? I doubt it , however well made it is .

Give me the feel of the speed , 160kms plus for any length of time is insane these days , they lock you up and impound your ride ! Go naked and ride !
