Thanks for letting me join this forum, I'm very excited to be apart of your group. I've been riding for 5 years now and really enjoying it. My first bike which I currently ride is a 82 Honda GL500I and really have enjoyed riding it. So why I'm here?? My first GL went down and my mechanical skills are limited. But owning a 30yr.+ bike comes with responsibility especially on modest income. So long story short, I spent my 2nd summer as owner and rider fixing my Gl's stator and replacing alot of gaskets etc. I never thought I could accomplish it and get it back to riding status, but I did it and proud of it.

I have a friend who is a avid beemer guy and a great friend and he lent me his spare 85 K100 rt, and it was hard to let it go in fall. Going from my 500 twin to the 1000 4cylinder, was quite a change in which I was exhilerated. So the BMW bug was in place, and my friend is always there to plant seeds of beemers dancing in my garage.

I have the opportunity to buy a 88 K100rs from another friend that is in very good condition this spring. My plan is to buy it. So hence my joining this forum!

Thanks!!

MN - give yourself a couple of hundred miles on it and you'll really understand the character of the K and why we are all such devoted followers.

Hi MN,
They are great bikes they just seem to get on with the business of eating up the miles allowing one to enjoy the ride. Good to have you with us.
Regards,
K-BIKE

Hey MN, I just got , my 85 K100rs before Xmas this year. I haven't ridden it but around the block yet. My wife not wanting to be a stowaway found an 87 K75s as well. We live in Northern IL. So we hope that you find a bike that you want. Before you buy your friends bike (it could be sold to another one of your mutual friends) I want you to know that NOW is the waining moments of a buyers market preseason. I found my K100rs on Craigslist in South Bend, and my wife's K75s in Killeen Texas, with 12,800 miles and 9400miles respectively. There are some fabulous buys nationally on Craigslist, and the trick is to be able to search ALL Craigslist in North America at once. I do this by using www.oneCraigs.com. I also would consider using www.Uship.com to have your bike shipped if it is too far to cost effectively pick it up.. My trip down to Killeen was three days, 2200miles and $450 in gas. And I probably could have had someone bring it up for $350 and not put the miles on my truck, but I had to eyeball it to make sure it was what we wanted.
Anyway get your K and come down to IL to visit.
Uncle Jim

Welcome, welcome. Yes, the '85 K100RT has 90hp, one of the most powerful bikes of the K series. The high reliability of BMW makes it an excellent choice for the mechanically challenged, but I'm sure you'll eventually get the hang of it with a little help from this forum.
