We spend so much time eyeing off youtube bits, and what others have put together in film,
that I have been pondering myself the thought of installing an action camera to either my helmet or bike.
which has had me looking through ebay and the likes at the variety available. Not being techno savvy ( 12 mp el cheapo, Ipod and phone cameras are the extent of my ventures so far) I am asking if there are any preferences to style or types for my rides.
My intention is to record some great K rides, as a group and solo. We have some great locations here , it is shame to miss the opportunity.
I was thinking of options for mounting as well, such as a boom with 360 degree pivot/swivel, helmet cam ( I think this is what Klompy may be using), Due to my visor retracting externally , this may be a bad option.
I would like to maintain a horizontal view with the planets surface at the same time, (may need to change helmets)
Any suggestions, thanks .

In order to maintain a constant horizontal view, you would have to mount the camera on a pivot and put a weight (pendulum) at the bottom of the camera.

Here is an idea:

I bought one of these today for my upcoming trip. On special for $169. Charging the battery as we speak. But you gotta buy the micro SD card separately.

Just to chip in my two cent's worth Grover. The most vibration free mount is your head so a helmet cam would be best. I sometimes use an MD80 micro SD camera like
this . Which I won for $0.99 from Hong Kong Laughing

I put velcro hook tape on the back and I sit it inside my visor but the shadows caused by the helmet don't always help.

I personally believe the best ones are the type that continuously record on a loop and are powered off the 12 outlet - that way if you have an accident you have the benefit of the footage. The mini ones only run for 60-90mins on battery. I would bug me to think I had an accident or incident while the cam was in my possession but of no use due to a flat battery.

Regards the eagle eye and other one on your links I decided against that type as the climate is too wet for the open connectors at the back and I would want to run off the power supply.

I also discovered with the helmet cam that I'm like Noddy on the bike - my head is constantly on the move... mirrors, shoulder checks, view scenery, mind that dog, etc etc and that doesnt make for good footage to show others of the route/scenery.

If it's the route you want to film for the rest of us (yes please - I for one will be watching) then a well mounted camera on the bike will work best but not on the windshield as it buzzes too much.

Let us know what you choose

one eyed ride Chilli-technology-action-cam-3-hd-720p made by Chili uk and is not bad for picture quality but the sound is terrible in the wind....so suitable sound track necessary when moving....

great feedback guys,
CF , that was one thought, possibly a rig on the rear pillion position with a pendulum weight for horizontal balance.
Klompy , that style was in mind for slipstream effect and ease of activation, however I have a crook enough neck as it is so I wont be doing any of your weird tricks.
helmet cam was on the cards , more for the vibration free effect. any where on the bike was not my choice of options, but willing to try anything for a good pic.
Ajays , nice footage , you certainly get the feel of the bikes movements.

Another option not yet considered.

thanks for the input guys
Jim , if you keep up that sort of googling you will have us both locked up, mind you your link came up with this , can I have one...please!

...Grover, Guys, please excuse me.
Didn't add to the conversation well.
Sent frivolous link with no identification.
Not appropriate when someone is wanting straight up information.
....which this crowd is amazing about doing.
Shall do better in the future.
