Hi There, nice to "meet" you all. I've been lurking for a bit and am glad to join this great forum. I've recently gotten an '85 K100 (standard) that was sitting under a tarp behind my cousin's house for 4 years, gathering pine needles and spider webs. We brought her out, changed the gas and battery, and she fired up almost immediately! Pretty amazing. A bit of cleanup and she is looking good!

However, after a checkout by my local BMW shop, it was revealed that my new-to-me K needed a lot of TLC, which is no surprise given how long she was neglected. List of To-Do's:

1. Final drive rear main oil seal is leaking, which contaminated the rear disk and brake pads.
2. Rear brake fluid reservoir and hose to master cylinder shot.
3. Rebuild needed on Rear Master Cylinder
4. Water pump is leaking
5. Tires old and cracked
6. Intakes cracking

And this is to just get her road-worthy! Not to mention the myriad of other little things that I'm sure I'll need to fix and tinker with.

Since I've been able to view all the great information here, and I'm a decent backyard mechanic, I've already been able to start on the many projects above.

- New rear brake fluid reservoir, hoses, rebuild on rear master cylinder, new pads and new rear disc done
- New tires installed
- Final drive removed (splines looked great!) and in-process of getting ring seal replaced
- Fork oil drained, ready for some BMW 10W
- New rear shock (went cheap for now, got a Progressive Suspension 412, 3/4" shorter for my shorty legs)

Special shout out and thanks to 'Two Wheels Better' on this board for all his great advice during the past few trips for parts at Ride West BMW, here in Seattle.

Looking forward to learning and sharing more!

No doubt, this is the place to be if you're riding a classic flying-brick.

Hey, welcome on board.

I had the pleasure of riding through Seattle last year, and was left with the impression of a cool place, which felt a bit like Sydney on the seafront (the crowds and traffic freaked me a bit though - hadn't encountered much of that for months before arriving there Smile ).

That Alaska Marine Highway into Bellingham(?) was an incredible 4 days.

Cheers
Pat

If you're a decent backyard mechanic you're halfway home and dry working with a K bike. The other half will be the forum help. Good start PacNW.
