bmw k100 heated grip switch position - what are the positions of the switch for off, low and high?
Believe my k has the BMW heated grips but want to check how they are supposed to be turned on, off and think there is a high and low setting.

The centre position is off, I don't know if the upper is high and the lower is low (but you should be able to feel that). Otherwise look at the wire colours from the switch and compare to the electric plan.

If you push down on the symbol plate it's the low position,
and push down on the three raised stripes it's on the high position.

Thank you. After some cleaning of connections it now seems to work.

Thank goodness for this post Inge K.

Just fitted a brand new BMW heated grip kit and I guessed the centre position was off but couldn't work out which was high and which was low.

Now then, the little symbol doesn't illuminate when switched on, am I to be continually disappointed or is my switch faulty??

Thanks Renez, I was convinced it would illuminate so while slightly relieved that its not a faulty switch, I am disappointed that it doesn't light up. Sad I know Rolling Eyes

No worries. I'm quite sure I've seen an article somewhere where an individual placed a LED in a switch as an indicator. Have a search on the site?

Honestly Renez, its not that much of an issue but thanks for the pointer.

Only slightly perturbed that in 1974 I fitted a Smiths stick on rear screen demister to my 1972 VW beetle and the switch that operated that lit up when in use, BMW couldn't compete with that??

It was probably me - I have all four rocker switches internally illuminated. If you take any of those switches apart you'll find they all have the internal moldings for what is called in the UK a grain of wheat bulb. The fly in the ointment is that the moldings don't have the required third (positive feed) tag for the bulb and because the heated grips use a rocker action, it would be very difficult (but not impossible) to illuminate these anyway. I used LEDs because I happened to have some of the correct size but fitting the dropper resistors into the switch as well was an interesting nightmare.

If anyone is really interested I'm quite happy to do a 'how-to' with the bulbs (not the LEDs!).

My guess (only a guess) is that BMW cars use the same switch moldings and have the internal illumination.

Early models (up to ~'88) did have illuminated hazard switches, and also some that was used on police models.
