Thanks for your.......input?.
Looked/looks like might be good for making something of it.

Fellow might have side panels.
Dunno.

Kinda sharp response. Am trying to figure out the comment of where "many, many thousands" is accurate.

I don't believe that. Do you know this bike? 41k miles on the same.

You call the fellow?

What's with the shooting from the hip, on the matter?

Seems to me that this offering for $1200 for a 16v could be a good thing for one of our crowd.

Regards,
JimK

Paint is at least $1500 on an RS. Minimum. And that is just the bodywork. Refinishing wheels and ancilaries will cost all that much more. 40K means time for a spline lube. How do the Paralever bushings feel? Does it need a rear main seal or a clutch? How are the brakes? Is the front master cylinder leaking? Pretty common feature of that style master cylinder and not a lot of fun nor are they cheap to rebuild. Does it need head bearings? Betcha it does, and fork seals too. How about a stainless steel fastener kit or replating the original fasteners with cad or bright nickel? Then there are some expensive rubber and plastic parts. I can almost guarantee the stock exhaust is cracked at the welds between the headers and the collector. Again, that is a pretty normal fault of that exhaust unless the owner did something to prevent it (welding small rods between headers about 25 mm up from the collector seems to take the vibration that cracks them) AND was very diligent about keeping all the rubber mounting points fresh. Judging from the appearance, I am certain the owner did not and you have a broken exhaust that will be expensive to replace, if you can find one that is not cracked. Good luck. I'v restored some K-RSs and know what they cost. I am in the middle of an RT/LT frankenbike project using nothing but used parts and I figure I will be lucky to get out for under six grand. That thing won't be cheap to make nice.

Themason you are the one who said "making it nice" no one else said anything about even making it roadworthy.
The bike was simply pointed out by Jim K and you bounced in saying don't touch it.
Paint who said paint only you it doesn't have to have paint to ride it. The wheels look fine and are round with tyres and air.
How the hell do you know what needs doing the owner may have looked after it quite well and just having 40k on it does not mean that it has to have a spline lube done, the owner may have just done it you don't damn well know any off that you are making wild asumptions with no backing at all.

Look at it. We know the starter is inop because the add tells you so. It says it runs ok after you push start it. K100 starters do not often fail. What else is wrong with it? No battery covers, damage pretty much to every corner of the body work. Sun faded. That thing has been neglected. Look, I worked at two bike shops including a BMW franchise. This isn't my first encounter with one of these. I would be amazed not to find a lot of time consuming and expensive "deferred" maintenance on that bike. I also know that even well maintained 16V bikes have exhaust system cracks. I had exactly that bike in the same color, and BMW replaced six exhausts under warranty when the welds connecting the headers to the collector failed. There is a way to reinforce them so they do not crack but I would be very surprised to find that mod on that bike. Finding a replacement exhaust takes time and $s. I know my way around these bikes pretty well.
