Might be a new Australian record for low kms.

Price is too high regardless and the photos are crap. Couldn't he stand a bit closer with the camera?

Still, if anyone is in the area might be worth a look just to see how nice (or crap) it really is.

If he reversed the 6 & 3 he would come closer to the right price. A bike of that age with so low Ks would probably need the seals replaced. If they aren't leaking now they will soon.

Is that fuel level indicator correct for a 1985 model? as in 7L and 4L warning lights.

notice the rear disc is aftermarket...would not think 7700 kms would wear one out....I guess a bike is only as old as the clocks say...

I went about looking for some very low mile K100s. I got some advice from someone who knows them reasonably well....

Seals even though ok for now, unlikely to last, especially crankshaft end seals.

Oil/water pump.

ABS failure [if an ABS bike] due to non changing of brake fluids, also brake caliper piston seizure/seals. Rear master cylinder replace seals.

6/12 rivet issue but need to check date.

Seals in final drive.

Spline lube.

Replace fuel pump, filters, high pressure fuel lines to injector rail. Check for corrosion inside petrol tank.

Check for valves/unleaded petrol, some earlier ones need head work done to run on unleaded petrol.

If bike was parked up and left for years on end without being run you can get a tight spot on the timing chain. Tensioner also can fail.

Coolant sysem hoses may be perished. Also a risk of internal corrosion if simply laid up with water and no corrosion inhibitor. Replace hoses and thermostat.

New tyres, old ones will either perish or have flat spot from being parked on them. 5 year age limit.

He recommended the above items be done as a minimum and treat as a new bike and run in gently. I know he was being a small bit fussy but I have been around laid up motorbikes for years and its quite amazing what fails through lack of use as opposed to normal use or even neglect. A certain amount depends on whether the bike was 'prepared' for being laid up. All in all a budget not to be ignored but would result in a seriously good K!!

Sent the guy an email asking for better pics.
Said he would post some and is looking at around $5000.
Much better price, but still want to see it close up. And check that rear disc for Mr Klompy

Very early production K100s came with a rear disc slotted exactly like the front disc. This was discontinued because the rears for some reason would curl like a potatoe chip, er potato crisp for you Aussies. That is actually a very rare rear disc. Really early production K100s even had a little drain plug in the lower rear corner of the valve cover. You can see the round boss in the casting of all the K100 valve covers where the drain plug was machined.
If you look carefully you can see both features in this photo taken from original BMW sales literature.

The bike also has the passenger grab strap on the seat, another tell-tale early production feature discontinued during the 1984 model run.

So does my '84 manufactured in July, but you can see photos of really early production K bikes with slotted rear rotors. That style of rotor was discontinued very early in production due to warpage problems.

The K1100s have that slotted disc on the rear so they went back to a disc that had known problems. Hmmmm
