Evening all;
Have been chatting to AL58 about the process of carrying out valve adjustments and we decided a valve and balance party would be in order.
So any Sydney folk who wish to carry out a V & B you are cordially invited to bring your bike or bikes (Rossco)to RAAF Base Richmond next Saturday morning 27 Jul 2013
http://goo.gl/maps/bb1Mb

You may want to bring some sealant and seals / O rings if yours are dodgy

Call 0414231985 if you get lost or need help with the guard dogsthat are fed once a week, if they are hungry or not...normally Sundays.
Rossco if you do want to do both bikes we canorganise somethingprior to Saturday or on the day.

The engines need to be cool to check the clearances so you'll need to get there a bit earlier for the bike to cool down before that work can start. Klompys bike will be cold so we'll start there. RS's and RT's need to have the left hand lower fairing panels removed as well as the camshaft cover anyway before work can commence so you'll have time to do that.

If any bikes are trailered, we can get stuck in straight away.

Clearances are easy to check and we'll have the tools for that. Any valves that need shims changed either I'll show you how the tools work and you can go for it or me or someone else can do it for you if needed. There is very little oil lost in the process when the cam cover is removed so there's no need to worry about topping up.

Please note this is for 8 valve bikes only. 16 valves bikes can have the clearances checked and recorded but there are no resources to adjust/rectify 16 valve clearances that are out of spec.

Al

What time Saturday morning are you calling early?

Won't the government be upset you giving away state secrets?
Google earth link to the raaf base?
Hope the dogs are away. Might bring some sausages just in case.

Oh, only one bike coming. Colour to be decided.

Rats, can't make it. Someone please make sure Waz is paying attention so he can guide me later.
I actually have the cover off the new/old bike and cleaning about a kilo of sealant off and all the rubbers were bushed, so have used the spares for my road bike.
Have fun.

As the rest are obviously too damn lazy to post in here, here are my pics from the mornings events.

Well we all saw the Klompenbike in a previous post. Just a photo here to prove it does exist.

Now this is a photo of a nekkid AND red K100 awaiting a pleasant ambient temperature and a thorough shimming from a total stranger. (That is why there is no seat. Had to be removed due to an earlier soiling while waiting on the procedure)

Supervisors? I have 20

At least when I find a hair in my lunch I will know where it has not come from.

Smoke if you got em

For those in the northern hemisphere, did I mention we are in the middle of sinter winter?

And finally the results. The Klompenbike had results also but they were all within spec and boring so I will show a photo of mine. If you squint and poke you tongue out the left side you shout be able to read the scrawl

Not sure if two results on one cylinder indicate anything but thanks to Al we had shims to fix it back to spec and we have one more K that is good with the world.

Unfortunately due to a poorly placed spare key and a damn inconsiderate offspring Waz was not able to bring his bike to the super secret government facility (Richmond RAAF Base. Shhhh) for a shim check and vavle party so he has to take his newly acquired knowledge back to the 'Gong where RT and he can make the best use of their feeler gauges.

It is always nice to tinker in the garage, but it is more fun in someone elses garage when there are folks around who want to help and the hosts wife makes coffee and biscuits.

Thanks Klompy for having us.
I promise the oil will come out of the drive. Honest.

ps. This is a military base and the photos anyone at nasa or asio or nsa or google who see these photos, they were not taken by me. Unless by me you mean John Klomenhousererauserenstien, then yes, they were taken by him I mean me.

I wish the K was registered as I would have been there today to learn some new tricks. What sort of bars are fitted to the 'patient' ? They look like they would be better suited to my battered body.

I heard the 'Sound of Freedom' this morning and looked up to see 3 Classics heading south from Fairbairn.... anyone know what they were up to ?

If by the patient you mean the naked K, they are plain K100 bars. They are at a better angle (straighter) than RS bars

Naked is what it was going to be anyway.

I wasn't joking about the knobbies, this is my inspiration:

My previous naked K in early and late variations:

1) at Jindabyne with Spike:

2) when the chair went back on, the colour is Panther Mica:

I really liked this one, it's the only bike of mine that ever got a name "The Black Girl". Retired with approx. 400,000kms on its third frame, 3rd front end, 4th diff etc. Originally a police K100TIC.

this is the plan for a k75 ....one day (got to drop the kilos somehow ) and brace up the streering head

this is the plan for a k75 ....one day (got to drop the kilos somehow ) and brace up the streering head
my inspiration

I know two people with K75GS's(I have seen either bike in years). One is a pro job, the other a self build, To use a 21" front wheel you need a 75, there is no room on a K100 as the radiator intrudes. Also if you want decent suspension travel on the rear, the swingarm and shaftmust be extendedotherwise the uni has to deal with too much angle.

I'll justbe aiming at standard wheels (3 spoke LT) and fairly standard height.K's make great handling bikes on the dirt, not talking about goat tracks here. Probably end up with Mitas E08 tyres, I'm a fan of the E-07 for my other bike already.

But that's a long way in the future yet. At this stage all I have is a bunch of bits laying around. Lots cleaning, blasting, painting etc coming my way

Al

Start with a K75C and the drum rear brake allows fitting of R80/100GS Akront cross-spoke wire wheels.

or paralever rear then mike ? that would be a plus for the rims I suspect

oooops that pic has no stay arm under ...doh ! you mean the monolever rear + drum brake ? ( that combination has the lower gear ratios then ?)

Monolever and drum brake rear end(from K75C) is compatible to use with wire wheels. K75S, All K100s, all K100/1100 Paralevers are disk rear so no wire wheel possibilities.

It's not about the gearing, it's the drum brake that's desirable in this case.

R1100/1150GS cross-spoke wheels are disc brake but the disc is mounted on the wheel and not the FD.

Nice Party !

same scene as here when we start these partys

- Old bikes in various conditions
- Same with the drivers
- Surpisedly faces when oil is found under the oilpump or clutch
- 1-2 guys working - rest giving more or less usefull comments
- 1 guy takes care of the grill

think for the next time I should should take a few days off
starting here in spring and arrival in AUS ...

just give me the time of day
arrival might varay +/- 1/2 H

Klompy, are you suggesting that Darwin has a similar climate to John O'Groats?
