Have been offered a BMW top box, unseen, with mounting plate as used on LT's etc. Would like to confirm that the mounting plate will fit straight onto the standard angled carrier that the K's come supplied with. John

Which top box?

There's the 21 litre that uses the standard carrier mounted on the tail unit and the 35 litre that has it's own frame that mounts on the pannier mountings.

Do they mount on the early model tail section?

I'm guessing this is the smaller one so should fit the standard carrier, yes? John

The standard carrier for the small topbox fits onto the late model tail sectiom but I am not sure that it will fit onto the early tail section which from memory is a little shorter and may not have the strenghtened parts moulded in.

Even 50 ltr aftermarket top box fits exactly in original BMW tail rack. Its not cheap, but very practical. Check this

I've certainly seen the very early bikes with the carrier. Whether that was a factory fit or not, I don't know.
