as we prepare to head off for some celebrations this weekend, K bike turns 30 this month, 3 cheers , Hip, Hip , Hip hooray
so I'll be endeavouring to mount my pocket camera to the LT.for some cool pics.
Rendrag has already shown his set up which is definitely an option , ( Damien can we use your pic)
however what I am seeking is a broader view of the cockpit and ride ahead.
as I spend a lot of time glancing in all directions a helmet cam just doesn't seem the right gear.
but I do like the idea of changing the focus position whilst in mid ride. ie: pan left to right , swivel up or down.
so we'll see how it goes on thursday during pre trip . pics to follow .
hmmm... how due you take a photo of the camera on the mount, if you are holding it?

What about some thick plastic stuck between the seat and the tank raising up to be high enough to look through the screen and over the instrument binnacle, the speedo will be in the lower forground and the road in the main view, maybe a 2inch pipe heated up and flattened to stick under the seat front and cut to accept the camera at the top, you could even lean on it to keep it from rattling if that became an issue, might work enough to get you through this weekend??????

Mirror.
then we can look at the back of our monitors to see the photo from the correct side.
Simple.

I'll be putting some extra thought into it tomorrow, but the suggestions are worth looking at.

gopro or similar have a chest strap.
Have a look at a run by 73MOH and Charlie.
Maybe Charlie can refresh our memories on where or when that may have been

Ram make a bewildering array of mounting options:

http://www.rammount.com/

Beware that vibration is not only the enemy of clear images but can destroy the camera in some cases.

In the past I've mounted a stills digital camera and got some good results. I then moved to a camcorder and used it extensively for my own recording purposes and to produce DVD's for the punters on organised tours of Morocco.

For the latter I had two hi-res bullet cams, one mounted on the bike (forward facing)

and one on my helmet. The camcorder had a Lanc switch that permitted swapping between the two bullet cams and an on/off switch so that I could chose when to begin recording as opposed to just starting it and hoping that by the time the camera was full, there was some interesting footage.

If all you want to do is to occasionally make some video, then using a tank-bag with the camera mounted on the top, looking forward will often give you a good view of the bike's clocks and the road ahead. It also is best placed to use the camera controls.

Grover, just do as I have seen you do in the past.

Pull the camera out of your pocket, aim in the general dierction and push the button.

Video?

No problem. Push the button for longer.

Mike, I thought of the tank bag as a work platform , the one I have doesn't work on the K. but yes operation of camera is the same.
Rossko , not all of my pics and vids have been successful with the hand held mode.
gets a bit shakey and sometimes the moment has passed you by , by the time you get the camera in use.
shaped up some flat 32x3mm aluminium tonight , it extends down from the top edge of the windscreen dash toward the rider, it runs in line with the clock. and allows the camera to sit about 10 inches ( 250mm) above the fuel cap. the vibration factor is yet to be determined.
I removed a PO mount that sat above the dash light, so this will become the location for a securing twist knob / bolt , which will allow removal between use.
