I have said it before and I will say it again. IKON shockies are NOT a rebranded KONI. They are junk.
The shock that Uli had fail is the 3rd IKON that has broken the top of the shaft that I have seen (there have been many more) and from one very quick look I could see it was a very poor piece of engineering. A 12mm shaft with a course metric thread and a 7-8mm hole down the middle. It snapped like a carrot right at the start of the thread, a very weak point indeed.
The local bike shop has stopped selling IKON because he has had about 1 in evry 2 come back for warranty claims.

Hi guys ,Made the trip home safe  had a bit of fun at Bathurst did the track and the museum , Panthers club for a feed. We then headed on down to Crookwell and then Goulbourn, nice run on some roads with bends and a little dirt. From there it was some boring k's on the Hume as Chris had to be back for work on Tuesday his blue k100 rs that  I did the oil water pump seals the day we left never skipped a beat,   1500 bucks  what a bargain a testament to the good old k's,turned of at Benalla for some of our favorites for the final run home, my good old pig ate the distance up easily its actually a k1100 lt that's been cut down and lightened heaps got rid of the abs along with all that heavy fairing, only fitted the rt screen and home made laminar lip the day before we left and it worked a treat no turbulence and didn't have to clean my visor from bugs once.Didn't get to talk to many of the group as most of you arrived late Friday went riding sat and we left early sunday but it was a great ride and look forward to the next one I can get to , Tassies got my name all over it  . Cheers AB . couple of pics.  Albert for a coldy and feed and Chris with bikes at the cairnFar Cairn Rally 2013 - Page 2 2013-09-21132421_zpsbffe8e07

I like Camp 5 Gordo, clean sheets and hot running water.
I did the same on the way home and slept for 12 hours Smile
I wonder why .....

thanks for the pics Aus, had that place in mind also , but somehow we skirted around it.
that trap is only a new addition there.
how was the track up to the FrKn monument,
as we arrived at the rally site , Rossko overshot the turnoff , and near got the opportunity to add it to his pics also.

My last post got cut off so here is the last bit.

OOCH!!!!

Far Cairn Rally 2013 - Page 2 2013-014

Expensive weekend all of a sudden!

My last (of many) river crossings . The Murray at Morgan by ferry. I love a good Punt!

Far Cairn Rally 2013 - Page 2 Dscf2314

Summing up, It's really pleasing to see and meet a "younger" set of guys who have ideas and energy to

keep the bricks going for many years. Hopefully they will diagnose my K powered wheelchair when I strike

problems and can't remember what a TB or TPS or BMU is!!!

My 2 cents on the banner bearing in mind that Ed has to be willing and compensated, is to send it to the Irish

to sign since they are strong on meets, then add all who wish digitally for this is the environment of the

forum. Then send to Bert in recognition of his founding this place. It looks better in the flesh than pics, good

job AL58.

The road out there was pretty good as far as outback dirt goes  solid surface with some ruts mostly 120 -130 k just lookout for the bad bits ,only hit one hole hard
The  pig handles the dirt fairly well unloaded, the lt bars are almost like a dirt squirts. should try some knobbies on it could be fun . Actually I'm currently setting up my k75 c with lt bars and some adventure style rubber .  k1100 throttle bodies and injectors( need 3 k1100 injectors if anyone has some they want to sell) to give a bit more response. Going to fit a para rear end it will be my  offroad tourer , just getting club reg organized now . Looking forward to trying it out on some trips.     Bad luck ghost on your added cost--mongrels spotted a few on our way home and  slid past slightly over the limit braked and watched the vibrating mirror for a few nervous minutes . Lucky. They were out in force back in Vic ,start of the school holidays. Cheers AB

Excellent photos and stories. Ahh, the journey.

Nice work smithy.
We in the forum don't normally accept awards for our bikes. We believe they are all best in show. Even if mine is better than the rest and it was not my fault I arrived 2 hours after judging started.

Ausbrick, I apologise for not trying to search you out.
Brain went in to stupid mode.  I am going to blame the rest of the forum folk who knew you were there and did not point me in your direction.
Second thoughts, they may have done that on purpose.
And I actually voted for your bike as best K there. I loved it. Set up as you want it be, not as you think it should be.

That is the suck Gordo. Does that say 10kph over? Bastards. Don't they have serious criminals to go after?
Despite being the start of the school holidays I saw 2 police cars over 3 days (1400km) and one of those was a 4wd out on a donut run.

Next time Saxxon7. You might be hanging round for the next forum meet ya? No skipping off to countries foreign for a while? Just spent the last week listening to Rammstein. I have no idea what he is saying and German must be the suck to learn, but I did pick up this little piece. Might be the way you are feeling now? Gott weis ich will kein engel sein. Just yet.

Lastly.
After a wonderful weekend and many hours in the saddle and coming home to see a post about the weekend you just had and not wanting to be second you decide to put up photos and tell your story first and was probably a bit colourful to impress the other forum members and even though you are tired and your wife is sick and you just went with your daughter to do 2 weeks of grocery shopping and you came back home and cooked dinner and maybe drank some wild turkey, it is not a good idea to let your wife read your post to see what a great weekend you just had.
"So I snore louder than a K100-forum meeting eh"
Pardon dear? Is that the time? Night.

Don't let the missus stop you posting Rossko, put a lock or password on! You summed up the spirit of the

ride and your humour/wit is wasted on your day job. Maybe? Wazz's brick was.. priceless.. top marks.

Thanks for the condolences, yeah 118 in a 100 zone, MAN... i'd been through so many 110,  100 zones,

no difference in the roads at all... sure I was Lucky... Cruised at higher than that at times on this trip!

For those from other countries.. if you don't already know.. this is a friggn' big island and getting places

requires heaps of mental fortitude.. and a deep wallet!  I also missed Ausbrick and some others but Charlie

Rick Tom and eventually Ulrich were my initial focus. Hey guys.. Rossko is just like you've read from his posts,

If you don't get it just laugh anyway!

Craig (Smithy) credits ME for showing him something on his camera then doubles his fuel consumption carrying

home the trophys.. WTF !

Ed (GroverK) freehanded the back of the banner "K100 Forum".. scroll back and see, took him no time at all

I watched him do it.. but look at his signature... WTF

Gaz is the guy you want as a bro in law.

RobinW is as irresponsible as me, he asked the time and i checked .. 1.26am by my 'clock'.

Far Cairn Rally 2013 - Page 2 Dscf2315

They had great wood at the Far Kairn, the boys love a bit of incendiary, check how close they are!

Soft, it was a mild night, you northern hemi guys should be doubled up in laughter, SOFT!

Far Cairn Rally 2013 - Page 2 Dscf2213

And this is Charlie, 99, Chas I call him, my reason for Far Kairn 2013.

Every curve and crease of this mans' face shows what you already know is Charlie! Am I right?

On a lighter note.. Rossko almost has mouth closed ... Is there a prize for that?

Looks like you guys had a ball. I think we now have an arrangement with ED re signing etc. We even have the packaging lined up for it already. I am sure we will arrange a meeting and get together to sign it in some historic place. The Hill of Tara sounds nice, or Newgrange and more about that in time.

But first we will drink a toast to you guys. It seems it was a great meet and an inspiration for others.

this K birthday celebration has been carried out in very much the same manner as previous gatherings,.
a group of K enthusiasts riding together , sharing their knowledge ,mechanical assistance( thanks to Col, we haven't lost him just yet) camaraderie and friendship.
I felt very privilidged to share the celebrations with this group of K nuts, and will look forward to many more experiences.

yeah , sorry Ghostie , I did get carried away a bit. and I agree the night was rather mild compared to what we road through on friday.
the banner will be receiving more signatures on saturday at Road Warriors Cafe , Mt White  around 9.00am. feel free to join.
and hopefully making its way to others as time allows.

Cheers Ed.

An early K with RT bars and the narrow rims makes a great bike on dirt roads.  I was always happier on the dirt with my K100 than with the later R1100GS.  Just have to be careful with the soft K rims.  A 75 is probably better with less weight on the front wheel. I'll be building similar myself but with a 100 engine.

Hey Ghostie, I should have written down the rego number of the P plate driver that I mentioned earlier who was running in front of me on the way home. You might have been able to contract her in the future to run in front on long runs and save your license points.

I cant believe I travelled over 1400km over the weekend at speeds that were often over the limit, and didn't mange to see the law once. Just as well, with double demerits and fines over the school holiday period. I just hope there is no surprises in the mail over the next week. Like the ghost said, it takes the shine out of the weekend.

Holy moly Gordo....They don't call it the Penal Colony for nothing. That little docket cost an eye watering amount. You can buy one of those over here for €60 Surprised ....the'll even give you a picture with it!

I got caught doing 208 kph (on a really good private road, ahem) and the Garda (cop) said to me - "If you were a young fella I'd do ya!" To which I replied "If I was a young fella I wouldn't have stopped and waited for ya!" He laughed, put the book away and gave me a ticking off.

Last one with a photo I got cost $330 for going through a red light.
I swear it was yellow when I crossed the intersection.

I have resolved my sleeping issues from this trip. I just won the bidding on a new tent/sleeping bag/mattress set off ebay for $44. If they let me pick up from capalaba, else $22 extra in post. Either way I should be able to sell the coffin to cover it Smile  Excellent ....

China is amazing place to visit with a vast past and a well planned future.
Never attempt to ride a bike in any of the major cities....a small "town" may have a measly 6 million people and all of them ride scooters...not normal ones but electric ones. Many a time one came close to collecting me as footpaths only mean a faster way of getting from A to B.
I appreciate life back here far more after travelling.
