As I sit writing this the wind is blowing and the rain is coming down. Glad we got that one right!
Hope the four guys heading back down to Cork today are ok.

Hi John and all,
Thanks again for organizing and leading a great trip.
I just got back and will post photo's later....but they are much the same as your's funnily enough...
Anyway I clocked 427 miles , not the most by far but a good tally. Weather was to put it mildly...bloody awful  for the last few miles N4 Lucan to Maynooth....but K just laughed at it, so I hunkered down and got thru it ;-)

More anon

John,

Thanks for some great photos.

Weekend started well, we arrived at Kilkeel to find a welcoming committee in the form of Comberjohn waiting for us. Soon sorted out we enjoyed a truly nice evening of food and banter and an interesting visit to a local hostelry where we didn't drink and from whence we retired to bed well before midnight.

Saturday dawned a great day and your route was of course perfect as usual. A mix of coastal routes, inland, some nice photo stops, it all made me think if there was to be a 100 great motorcycle rides this would be well up the list. 8 eccentrics sitting on a harbour wall at Ballycastle eating ice cream says it all.

Was a good run down to Cork last night, 5,000rpm with Stephen to Dublin and then on to Cork. Adding your nice trip from Belfast to Newry made that part just about 250 miles at 5,000rpm and one stop for food where I also put back in the thermal linings. All on a cool clear night and no traffic.

I will see if I can post up some photos but yours are so much better...I see the comment about getting four Cork men to stop talking.....but also 8 Kbike riders went into Bushmills Distillery and 8 came out without sampling a wee dram. I particularly enjoyed the route to the distillery across some very scenic 'serious' mountain roads, a very subtle ploy to make us all think it is very remote.

Lunch was also the ideal opportunity to present Comberjohn with his Flying Brick badge very kindly sent over by Bert [Crazy Frog] for his contributions to the forum. The Irish Eccentrics and in particular the north Trip would not be what they are without him.

I think I am about 730 miles from Friday 2pm to when I got back Saturday night [1.20am Sunday]. Feel great after it too.

Olaf

Arrived back home yesterday at 6pm, after 750 miles covered.

It was cracking weekend all round Grommit. It was good to meet up with everybody, and many thanks to Comberjohn for the route.  The roads alone would make me want to relocate to the north. And the weather put the cherry on top.

Now if only I could have one of those buttons on the dash, you know the ones..... the rocker switch that has "K-RS"  for Saturdays' twisty bits, and "K-LT" for the trip from Cork to Kilkeel and back.

Suppose I'll just have to buy another bike Very Happy

This guy acts like a disgruntled former employee of BMW.
The K1200LT is a much better bike than he makes out although not for the vertically challenged as it is quite easy to drop during low speed manoeuvres especially if you stall during the turn out.
Some of his points are valid like removing tupperware and servicing.
The most important thing to do is the brake fluid, yearly wheel circuits flush and 2 yearly complete flush (Modulator and wheel ccts). If this is not done you WILL have ABS module failure at great cost.
Battery is not puny as he states but gives great service.
Any other questions PM me and Ill answer if I can.

Sad for having to missed that one, looking forward to the next. Seemingly it was a very enjoyable one as usually.

At the moment I'm on 4 wheels as just sold the Red Rocket. On the market for a bike, preferably with ABS.
Anything between 200 and 300kgs in weight, anything between 750 and 1150cc. "Anything" certainly should be deciphered as "any kind of BMW tourers" Very Happy Worship

Well, mostly looking at K1100LT. Test rode a couple of them but seems to be hard to find a decent one. By my criteria it is basically narrowed down to the followings: K75RT, K100 RT/LT, K1100 RT/LT, R1100RT, R1150RT. I took K1200 off the list for being too heavy and myself being not old enough for it Very Happy

Update on that, just looking at a K75RT ad a few minutes ago, wife standing beside me.

Bjorn,

Consider yourself lucky.

How many would say its too big for you? or, 'You're not bringing that yoke home.'

K100LT or K100RT seem ok to me and having both I have a preference for RT due to weight. Same fairing and engine etc etc.

Olaf

Yes, I know that. She also added "and probably too big for me" which rather makes me worrying. Next day I wake up she might bring a C1 home.... Or a Husquarna / Husaberg / KTM beast around 400cc.
The reason I would prefer LT is mostly the ABS. I had Beemers with and without it and surely it can be a great help.

A friend of mine had 3 of them, he did big miles all over the east coast as an insurance investigator.  He had to ring roadside assistance once in a country town after he dropped and couldn't pick it up, and he is a not a small man.  funny mentioning it on this thread, he's married to an Irish lady called Florence.
