Greetings to all on the forum!
I am an engineer/ designer who has long had an interest in K series BM.s, and am now in a position finally to look to buy one. After working for Yamaha before qualifying as a designer, my only experience of a K was the short term loan of a 75S, which greatly impressed me, now as the family is a little more self reliant, i want to fulfill my goal, but really need to have a good look at, or just even sit on for size, an RS or RT 100,as there are obviously none in dealers! and the legs are getting older (last bike was a full power 1200 daytona triumph)- as i am in south wales- Pontypridd to be precise, can anyone help!
Loving the restoration posts!

Kind Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

Pontypridd? Been that way many many times. Just head due west, to Pembroke or Fishguard, hop on a ferry across to us over here and we will show you not just a K100RT LT RS but K1 and K75. We could use a day run to Rosslare.....and we have a run planned for 19 October....

On a more serious note there are some K bikes around near to you. I am sure you will have some offers soon enough.

Greetings Mark welcome to our planet.
If your intro to a K series was a K75S then you would be well advised to buy one of them as they are one of the best of the best. I would love to have one but back problems prevent it due to the leaning forward so I content myself with the sit up and beg position.
Have a read through this thread and it will give you some ideas on what to be watchfull of when buying

Hi Mark
Welcome to the Forum.
I am only a few miles west of you, near Ammanford, but no longer have my K100, for you to see.

One suggestion is to have a look at a couple of the K's on e bay, which are not far from you.
A quick check shows a K100 in Caerphilly, K75 in Bristol and a K1100 in Worcester.

Cheers
Bryan

Welcome Mark.

The K75 and K75S are nice bikes, well worth a serious look. They have the smoothest K-Series engine by far and a bit better suspension as standard than the 8-valve K100 models but they are still a bit let down by it (compared to later stuff).

My opinion is that the K100RS 16v is probably the best of the K-Series (K1 excepted). It had far better suspension, decent wheels that allow a wider range of (radial as opposed to cross-ply) tyres and did away with the fugly rectangular silencer.

The K1100 isn't really any better dynamically (the extra cc only moves peak torque 500rpm down the rev range) and they spoiled the looks a bit with the lower half of the fairing (very subjective I know) and with the LT, they shifted the fairing forward by about three inches and added loads of weight high up with the electric screen (which is unnecessary and problematic).

We know what they say about opinions so feel free to disregard mine. Wink

Welcome on board, I do agree with Mike the 16 valve K100 RS is the way to go if you want a big one and the K75 is a lovely bike.
Regards,
K-BIKE
