My rear shock is leaking. Just wondering if there is an affordable option to the $550 BMW unit, if it's even still available? I've looked on line and cant' find a used one. So far I've found an IKON for $600, a Progressive for $450, a Hagon for $500, and a Realm for $350. What do you folks recommend for a light weight rider, bumpy roads and a thin wallet?

Eh Ralphy Boy , you want to get the RAM shock ( Realm Engineering ) this is not based on price , it is the pick of your bunch , most here will agree

The realm engineering RAM SHOX is by far the pick of the lot but whatever you do DON'T buy an IKON they are plagued with trouble the main one being the shaft breaking at the top eye. I personally know of 3 with that have broken and one other where the spring colapsed and so did the replacement spring. I have heard of several others also breaking the shaft.

I like the RAM shock too.

One caveat:  The default is that it comes with a spring for two-up, fully loaded riding.  It was way too stiff for me one-up with minimal luggage loading.  I contacted them and had them provide me with a "lighter" spring for just me.  Worked much better that way so if you order one then be sure to tell them what the normal load will be on your bike so that they can spring it properly.

Yes the Ram is the best.
I fitted the Hagon, which worked ok, but had to go back under warranty - and then developed a problem, which they diagnosed as me fitting it the wrong way up!
I also tried a 2nd hand ICON at one point. which made the bike very tall and was very bouncy - probably faulty
No probs with the RAM todate

Ram would be the choice, but for those with a thin wallet check out the Bilstein replacement damper from James Sherlock.
Not hard to do. Just need a big hammer and a small cold chisel. I've done it and the result is OK. Similar to putting a new original shock on.
Says that they don't post to North America but not sure if that includes Canada. If it does, maybe it could be sent via someone in the UK.

Add another horror story about IKON.   this last summer we finished a tour thru southern Wisconsin with Motobricks crowd and on their way home a couple busted the IKON off their k1100rs  which  ribboned their rear tyre instantaneously  they wallowed on to the gravel shoulder at 40mph then high sided totaling their bike and leaving them both with minor hospitalization.    She swore off riding.  bad shock.
