Hi!
Found this forum through a link in the norwegian BMW-club. I have mostly been restoring and riding veterans, but two years ago I decided I needed a modern bike for longer rides - and I found an almost new BMW! (k100rs, 1986). It needed a little restoring, the fairing was rather worn, so it had to go (but then, I never believed in fairings). So I bought a a real headlight and had to shift a few electrical components, new oil and brakes and that was all; ready to go!
It has been a fantastic experience, quite a change from my other bike; a Jawa CZ 350ccm, 1956!

Welcome to the forum, Erik.
I have removed the fairing from my RT a couple of times and its a different bike without it. Every time I take it off, the temperature drops and I put it back on again!
Can see it coming off again next spring.
What about some photos of yours that'll let us see how you have mounted the headlight?

Nice to see you joining the forum Erik.

As Norway has a similar weather of us in Canada, you must be close to store your bike for the next 3-4 months.
The fellows/guys/mates on the forum will do their best to help you to get the bike ready for the next riding season.
Mines are stored, but I expect to take the sidecar out in the snow around January.

Cheers and welcome

CF

Welcome too!!!

Any of us with RT/LT will keep riding through the winter over here so we can keep you updated with K bike tales. The problems is we get no downtime to do maintenance.....even today was lovely sunshine and a warm enough day for taking the bike.

Here it was -6⁰C and black ice this morning. I didn't see any bike on the road.
Maybe the Irish people were still in bed. Sorry guys, the riding season is over for us Sad .

Hi Eric

Greetings from Ireland and welcome to the forum.

FYI I brought my 1987 RS to your beautiful country 2 years ago and had a wonderful tour but unfortunately was visiting your city Oslo on 22nd July. I bought an Oslo pass to visit all the sites but because of the bomb I did not get to do much but luckily we were heading for home the next day.

Thanks all!
Yes, both bikes are now stalled up for the winter, together with my son-in-law's. (One Honda and one Yamaha. But the K isn't a high-brow so they all go together well!) I will try to get some pics of my homemade headlight-mount. And looking forward to riding-tales from Ireland during the fixing-season!

Erik

I know its hard to park a bike for the winter. We get wet rather than cold and a K bike is great in the wet. I did have a naked bike one year and put it off road for the winter, the only time I ever did that.

We have sun this week and I have a 400 mile round trip planned for Thursday. We also have our Christmas brunch for 28 December whether it is bike or car weather, for me that's about 220 mile round trip.

The downside is that to put a bike off road for maintenance means missing some nice bike weather. The usual way to deal with this is to have two!!!
