The Guyra chapter of the forum would like to announce that we are planning a day ride from Guyra , in aid of Sean getting his bike back on the road, which hasn't happened yet but will by then. I'm thinking around Saturday 23/11 weather permitting. The reason I say weather permitting is because this ride is ####full in the wet, as low cloud hangs over the mountain and visibility can be zero. All are Welcome. The ride would take us from Guyra to Ebor, then following the Water Fall Way through Dorrigo, Bellingen and through to Coffs Harbour . Then on to Sealy lookout at Bruxner park, then traveling to Bucca road and through the Orara valley to the Golden Dog hotel in Glenreagh  for a counter lunch. After lunch continuing along the Orara Way  to Grafton , picking up the Gwyder Hwy, and traveling through to Jackadgery and across the Mann river and up the range to Mulligan's hut for a quick stretch and bragging rights on how fast we travelled through the range. with everyone caught up at Mulligan's hut we'll travel to Glenn Innes and back down the New England Hwy to Guyra. I have done this ride a lot of times now, and it is a full day's ride. It would be good to get away from Guyra no later than 8.00am so we have time for coffee breaks and so on. There is good cheap accommodation at the bottom pub in Guyra for about $25.00 per night ,or there is a van park with cheap camping fees .

I'm in, barring any last minute work commitments.  Only problem will be deciding which motorbike to ride.

Will Bella be coming as well ........ ?

Hmmm. November eh?

Tent space available at #62? Don't mind fighting the rabbits for it.
Up on Friday back on Sunday.
Put me down as a positively almost definite tentative.

Excellent idea Waz, I just finished the valve clearances and throttle balances, return your gear next week sometime. Still got a high idle need to fix but apart from that keen to go. Where's Rickmeister?
As an aside, mate made a stainless copy of the valve tool and valve holder. It's available for free hire if needed.

Jeez Waz, you make it sound so planned.

We had less than no idea where we were going. Stopped at every intersection between Tottenham and Forbes.
'Let's follow them, they are all going together'
'Stop again. 'Crap, 2 just turned off, do we follow them or the other 3?'
Ended up in Forbes. Actually turned out ok. Only did about 30km more than if we had gone the correct way.

Al will know Kenny from the BMWTCNSW on his 92 R something or other.
We caught him as he was being respondible doing 100kph.
We passed him.
We stopped
He passed us.
We followed.
We passed him.
We stopped.

etc for about 2 hours

All this practice has hardened Waz to long distance travel.
Go easy on him RT

Great idea Smithy. If I am able to be free that weekend I'm certainly keen to catch up with all again. Maybe I can keep an eye on Rossco and the boys from the big city on the way north on the Friday.

It's great to see so many members making the effort to try and be here for this ride. I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone again and meeting other members. For anyone that hasn't ridden this route, your in for a treat With great twisty country roads, great scenery and plenty of photo opportunity. Saying that I cant remember ever taking photos , I guess that us locals sometimes take the scenery for granted and just enjoy the riding. If tent space at #64 is at a premium I'm  20ks out of town with plenty of space.

Smithy , this sounds like one grand idea, I'm sure theres a few enticed by all those additives of twistys, piccy's  and all else that grabs one's attention.
Mate , I'm looking forward to pitching a tent somewhere in the vicinity of Guyra.
reminds me , didn't Sean have pics of his rig in snow , in November.
thanks for the invite mate , hope to be there. ( albeit current starting issues to be addressed again this weekend)

when Rossko and Waz lit up the techno maps.
nothing like a chin wag with the locals to while away the arvo.

My son got wind of this and is keen to do a trip on his new F800R, so we might be doing the father/son tag team thing. He's 22 ... and I'm not :pirat:

The Ghost doesn't think he can pull off 3 unannounced  so put the prick down for this one.

Ebor hotel was a less than memorable overnighter a couple of years ago so be good to revisit

what I'm sure is a nice place. That experience aside some of those roads were awesome.

Shorrny better turn up tho, not sure I can do another 3000kms and not meet Bella!

I'll certainly be there. Not sure whether Bella will be silly enough to get back in the chair for a bit, but we'll see. Rumour has it she was seen at the RTA queuing up to get her own licence a week or so ago.The backyard is fairly spacious so all and sundry are welcome to either doss down in the house or set up tents in the back yard. And Robin....it wasn't cold when you were here the other week. Smile

I've been for a run down to Nana Glen this weekend, and the Idle In Café looks to be a better option for lunch, rather than the Golden Dog . Great coffee, good cheap tucker, excellent service.

A Ride Through The Northern Tablelands X3 Reviews

Cuisines: Café
Description: Idle In Cafe is a rustic cafe in sleepy Nana Glen 25 mins from Coffs Harbour. A little place with a lot of character. "Idle in" for the best coffee and home baked scones in town! Relax inside in air conditioned comfort and enjoy the character of the timber beams, rustic furniture and biker memorabilia or lounge outside in the courtyard under the umbrellas and watch the world go by. Biker and dog friendly...but please keep both on a short leash ;-) Open Wednesday - Sunday for breakfast, lunch, morning & afternoon tea. Devonshire tea our specialty. An old fashioned country cafe with friendly service where you can relax and escape the world for a while.

You done well to stay at the Ebor hotel ,  I'm probably being a bit harsh but I'd rate the publican as less than human and the pub one of the worst in NSW. The only reason I'll stop at Ebor is for coffee at fuss pots.

Work commitments show that weekend as free, so will probably probably take the Friday off for a leisurely stroll down the New England.

Then invade Chez Schorn's for the night.  Subject to Bella's approval, of course.  (o)

You hit the nail on the head Smithy.. The Publican.
Short version, I came from the north up a fantastic road on the Suzi, not many roads suit this bike, flowing always uphill
Bends and horsepower reigns! With the elevation change from mild temps (Aug '08) it got freeking cold so Ebor hotel was
a given even tho' it was mid arvo.
Checked in and the cheapest was a bunk room, OK that's fine. He's a biker, Ulyseys? Kwaka cruiser I gathered, "Can I put the bike in a shed?" NO! Ice on the seat in the morn confirms he's not a Biker!
So gear in room and hit the bar, Missus knitting next to the wood burning heater, fair enough, totally useless son
blocking my access to the in corner heater. F...  I was effin' cold and couldn't get near to the only heat source!

I'm tough and can face these challenges but I couldn't even get any conversation out of "mine hosts"

A walk up the road and time passed then a couple of timber workers came in and salvaged my evening, experience
in common with the Tassie boy. He must have moved on by now, surely? My ONLY bad experience in an Aussie country pub!

I could be up for this one as well. Should have the K back on the road by then ... bits from Alby, bits from Floyd, bits from Ebay etc etc. Only got to put the front end back together and fit some blinkers.

Lets hope you get the K back together by then, Sean's also working hard on getting his K back on the road in time. It should be a good ride , hope you can make it.

I was stupid enough to go chasing oil leaks today and got carried away. Dunno if parts will get here in time to ride or not. There's no work going on so I'll get the gearbox out tomorrow for a closer look, but I can see shinny oil in the clutch housing looking through the starter motor hole with a tourch and there's oil in the boot around the gearbox output shaft as well under the right pot. These Bloody RBikes seem to be one big oil leak waiting to happen Sad

Hey Robin , it's good to see you don't do anything by halves. Hopefully you get it back together in time.
otherwise you could always plead with the young bloke for a loan of his F800R.
