No problems, I've just put the date for any that might be thinking of it again.  Makes it easier for forward planning.

Those school holiday weeks are going to be busy for me:
Far Cairn (sort of have to)
Camper Trailer Nationals-usually do (this year Glen Innes)
The new, first time BMW National BMW Motorcycle Rally (want to)

ROFL, would probably have been an ok ride, at my own pace, and without that stupid crosswind.

But instead, the first three hours on the Friday were the worst ride I've had in a long time - sitting between 100-140k/h in a heavily forested 80 zone, trying to keep up to the guys I was riding with. Crosswinds were so bad, that I was countersteering heavily into the wind, then leaning off the other side of the bike to counteract what the trailer was trying to do.  Meanwhile it was all up hill and down dale, and the bike was hitting 120c with the temp guage flashing red on every uphill for three hours.  Once we got 200-ish km from the coast, the hills settled down, and the bike sat between 90-100c.   Was the same on the way back, as soon as we turned off the main road and went into the mountains, the crosswinds came up and the temperature gauge went through the roof.

Nah, I definitely enjoyed the ride by myself to the Karuah rally, doing my own pace Smile   And the ride home was a hoot - passed SO many sports bikes on the dirt road on the way out Wink  Seems like the trailer settles the bike down on the dirt Wink

ROFL, no, trying to keep up with hurricane Furchert ;-p

Sorry, this was on the VFR.  Apparently the right-side radiator is smaller than the left, and you can source a larger radiator.  Also thinking of doing a dual-fan mod, as there's no fan on the right-side radiator!   Though since I flushed them out, AND washed out the fins (shoulda seen the mud!), i've had MUCh better running temps!  I saw 125 ONCE on the way into Karuah, that was on Skimmings gap road, just before the turn onto Middle road.  Didn't realise how steep that climb was!  Then she dropped straight back down to 95, when I started heading downhill Smile

I was noticing that the rally site is sorta in the general direction of our Queensland to ViKtoria run and at the same time! Might just havta pop in for a looK-see on the Saturday. If you see a red K-RS trolling for a landing spot push us off the bike and hand us a coldie!

It wont be hard to look out for another Red K100RS/HRD sidecar I guess Wink

I'll be at the rally Friday, leaving Blaxland around 8:30-9:00am.  Heading up via Mudgee and Dubbo for a change.  I'm getting a few things sorted today for final packing.

The sidecar passed rego Friday, was a busy day; I had to put Maries 2 bikes through their rego checks too.

Seeyaz at the FarKairn.

Who's going to the rally at Tottenham this weekend?
I'm leaving on my 1993 K1100RS from Ipswich Queensland Thursday morning. Warwick, Inglewood, Moree, Goondiwindi, Narrabri and camping at Pilliga Bore on the way down.
I'll be at the rally site at the showgrounds Friday afternoon.
Back via Narromine, Dubbo, Dunedoo, Coolah, Gunnedah and Bingara on Sunday.
Checking out MacIntyre Falls and the caves in Kwiambal National Park and camping (Lemon Tree Flats or the other Ashford camp - see Nindigully trip) at Ashford on Monday.

We landed at BNE (Brisbane) yesterday, drove to the shed where the K is kept, dragged it out into the bright, Queensland sunlight and stood back surveying what needed to be done. Within a coupla hours I had a new fuel Bosch pump, hoses, clamps and filters fitted - the P.O. hadn't fitted a screen to the bottom of the pump and it would scream when it got warm! A 900Ma overnight charge brought the year-old Motobatt battery up to the green and holding under load - I'd hastily only disconnected the earth straps last October when I left. A fresh splash of 98 octane and a quick stab of the starter to prime the new pump and on the second go she fired up and immediately settled into a steady idle.

Far Kairn Rally 2014 K100rs10

In the driveway this evening after spannering for a little while (oil and filter change, new Z frame mounts for the panniers, etc) we knew we could be on the road tomorrow or Thursday, heading South.

After sitting covered but dry for eleven months she required very little to get going. It's looking likely that FCR 2014 could be a reality for us.

Hope to see some of you there this weekend.

My young mutt Leroy gets along with Andrews dog Dollar very well.  Leroy was absolutely knackered after playing with dollar and playing with his frisbbe all day Saturday at the rally.

We're just home now after a major mishap on Sundays return trip. All safe, just had to spend some time with a welder at Narromine this morning before we could finally head home.

Ready and waiting for other riders on Friday morning me on the K100RS sidecar with trailer, Marie on her R1150R. Maries R1150R breaks a rear tyre valve stem while putting air in (possibly the original stem).  I head home and get the trailer to take the R home.  The quickest way to get back on the road is to unload all her gear, park the 1150R and upgrade her choice of bike to the K100RS-16v(first big run for this one).  So again we're on our way.

Far Kairn Rally 2014 P9191574_zps8be50b77

We took a different route this year via Mudgee and Dubbo instead of Parkes and Bogan Gate.  It's all good till pulling into Trangie when I hear a 'click' every time I apply the front brakes through town.  Stop to investigate and I find one missing front caliper bolt, the other finger tight and the caliper bobbing back and forward; no hose or pipe damage thankfully. Marie heads off with the finger tight bolt and returns $4 later with a suitable replacement after searching the huge metropolis of Trangie.  While there a friend "Rex" ducks out of the pub to say hello, he's heading to the Far Cairn on a bicycle!  Still 80kms to go Rex, we'll see you there tomorrow.

Had great weather for the rally, the mutts had a ball.  Leroy(border collie x elephant) found lots of new friends by dropping his frisbee at their feet and looking hopefully at them.  No-one wanted me for the hard luck award, even a girl with a broken finger nail got more votes.

We're on holidays for 2 weeks so there was no rush to hurry home and leave the site early, so a leisurely pack up and talk to some mates before leaving.  We headed back through Albert and turned towards Narromine all at legal speeds on those quiet roads of course.  16km short of Narromine I felt a lurch from behind, checking the mirror I seen something bounce into the scrub behind me to my left so pulled up as quick as I could.  When I stopped I found my trailer no longer had any wheels or axle and was being dragged on its belly.  Thankfully Marie was travelling a bit behind me on the 16v and didn't even see the axle depart never mind get clobbered by it.

I retrieved the axle and wheels from the roadside back a few hundred metres, it was still straight, the wheels still turned, but you could see where the welds had torn out of the chassis.

Mobile reception meant we could at least contact the NRMA to organise recovery, we had to upgrade the vehicle cover as the base cover doesnt cover the trailer but thats OK.  Around 90 mins later we were finally headed to Narromine again.  The NRMA tow truck guy was amazing, he took us to the caravan park first so we could unload the trailer, he had already organised the owner of the welding shop to open up so he drop the trailer safely (remember this is a Sunday).  All we could do was wait till the morning to get the repairs started. But Narromine is a nice place, we took the mutts down to the Macquarie river for a dip, watched the ultralight planes from our campsite amongst other things.  We had a few visitors as it was unusual having a sidecar in town, even one 80yo with an R50/5 (1000cc + 5 speed box fitted) engine with a Tilbrook sidecar came out wearing his slippers to see us.

The welder had everything reinforced and reattached by 10am, the sparky took a little longer replacing the damaged wiring and we were back on the road heading home around 1:50, later than we'd hoped.  Around Orange I was feeling a bit tired and ragged, Marie was pushing for us to stop somewhere but I just wanted my own bed (althought still at least 4 hours away).  So we swapped bikes.  Was bit slow to begin with as Maries hasnt ridden the sidecar any distance for a while, but it made all the difference.  I was loving the 16v, I hadn't ridden it any real distance before and moving to a bike where I had to be more physically active woke me up.

No more dramas on the way home, we had a few stops for the dogs, had a few coffees and finally arrived home around 8:30 (2 hours in the dark which we rarely do these days).  Basic unpack, put the bikes away and hit the bed.  Its a ride I'll remember I think.

The 16v impressed the two of us in different ways.  For Marie; well she owned 2 x K75s and she loved it to death, but she was saying I really wish I'd bought a 100 instead way back then.  Me, well my first BMW was a K100RT that I'd bought to slow down and keep my licence after losing all my points in two fines on a Suzuki GSX1100EFE.  The dealer had a choice of the RT or an RS, I bought the RT as it had a radio, I was really wishing I'd bought the RS all those years ago.

Another Far Cairn done and dusted, as a mate RTO said K means its a Keeper.

Al
