Does anyone have experience or know if it is possible to fit the new design rear brake switch on a pre-'86 K100RS?

I ordered the newer style (61311459588) without realizing that there was an older style (61311459569) on my bike.

I replaced this part because the design was poor enough that oil, road grime, and brake dust had clogged the pin-style connector in the on position, causing my brake lights to constantly be on.  The new style is clearly a better design but I am unsure how to attach it to the footrest that I have.

I cannot find a clear picture or diagram on the net that shows how the new style part is attached.  If anyone could provide a good picture to me I may be able to either fashion a bracket or purchase an updated footrest.

Or maybe you have another way?  Thanks!

Install newer peg plates.  But then you'll also need to modify the exhaust hanger mount or get an 86+ exhaust.

One can always just install the right peg plate and hope no one will notice and most wouldn't.
I once had a Ford Galaxy LTD with different mags on one side to the other. They were the same brand but one side had 5 kidney shaped slots and the other side 6 slots and in the 2 years I drove it like that nobody even noticed.

The peg plate must be from a bike made sept. -86 (-87 model year) or later.

Actually, I had Al inform me that my brake light was permanently on.
On the RT it has the little plunger type.

The pin appears to be nylon or plastic or some other soft as crap bit of crap and mine was worn off/ rubbed off/ broken off at the base of the metal housing. No amount of WD40 is gonna make it grow back.

Maybe it is not stuck and has suffered the same fate.

Just what I found.

I did not pull the pin out to check its makeup, but the broken end appeared to scratch very readily. I assume something soft ish.

If you're prepared to sacrifice your choke light, you can use that switch as a replacement.  Its exactly the same and being in the middle of the bike its usually in pretty good shape.

that's pretty true rossko ...when its broke ...good to recognise the fault ...doesn't mean that all the designs were bad ...

just change for changes sake, means that bmw have listened to the wingers for far too long ...crikey mate
there are old "k"s out there  many years older and still going well ...its really a point of recognizing the issue and putting it on the "to do" list ...just like changing plugs ...oil etc

the next thing that might happen is that some one found out that that over priced micro switch with origami folded leg ...isn't ip 67 rated ...and all claims are null and void if you have ridden in rain and out of warranty period ?

manufacturers  - service centres thrive on this kind of "return business " eh?

Fit a hydraulic switch in the brake line......no more problems.

Paul.
