As I have a pretty crap memory, this is a reminder to myself what I have done to this bike.
Do not come here thinking that this is going to be a full-blown reconstruction of a K100RT. It isn't.
Be prepared to be bored out of your brain.

If you have read this far, you have no life and are prepared to read anything to do with K's.
You have been warned.

OK, bought it home and changed the engine oil, oil filter, gearbox oil and final drive oil.
The engine oil was b-l-a-c-k. If there was a colour called dark black, it would describe the colour of this oil.

This will give you an idea of when the engine oil was last changed...
My recently purchased RT (do NOT look here for inspiration!) Sany1111
The printing on the genuine BMW filter can be wiped off with your finger!

Gave it a wash and made a list of what needs done/purchased/repaired.
My recently purchased RT (do NOT look here for inspiration!) Sany1116

More to follow. If you are yawning by now, don't blame me.

My recently purchased RT (do NOT look here for inspiration!) 44271 - too true mate. Tell us more. Maybe checking the tyre pressures or even just random photos of any part of the bike - I need a fix, I need to feed the 'K' demon!

Nice bike - good colour, looks pretty smart.

Yep, 9 out of 10 on the Sadometer I reckon! So just the cumulatively expensive, sometimes difficult to find PITA bits to make her complete Very Happy - sounds my sort of resto to be honest; rather that than rebuilding the basic mechanical gubbins.

Keep the photos coming!

Good job Blakey.

Here is my advice.

Put something under the bike to hide the oil stain on the pebblecrete.

Or blame the cat. Damn kitten tears stain everything.

Blakey, it has scrubbed up well so far. OK, remember do not ever put any of your spare parts in a "safe place"....you will never find them. I saw a complete side/centre stand on ebay a few days ago, if that is any help to you.
More photos please.

Piece of cake. The forks now go "boing, boing".

Bought this at Bunnings ("big box" hardware store chain here in Oz). Use it to change the oil in your four stroke mower. Creates a vacuum and the oil goes into the bottle. Should work for brake fluid!

Please read the text. The steel and rubber/plastic "gaskets" are replaceable. You just need to get that dome shaped plastic bit off.
Suggestions please.

AFAIK the only roundel on the fairing is above the headlight for that model.
I just bought some 65mm roundels from a guy in HK if you want to wait and see what they are like $1.50 each and looked OK but we shall see.

Here's my thread on tank lock repair Blakey. It should give you a good idea of what to expect inside. PM me if you've any questions.

Great progress on the new motor, all I seem to be able to manage these days is to mutter in the general direction of the bike while passing with tools for the ever growing "Honey Do" list.

The dome shaped part is snap fitted from the bottom of the cap.
If I remember correctly Question .....remove the rubber gasket first and twist the domed shaped part ~45o, makes it easier to remove.

The "steel gasket" is a spring washer which keeps the rubber gasket tight against the opposite seat.
If you don't need to change this, it also isn't neceserry to take the domed part of.
It's only neceserry to change it if you feel that the spring washer have become weak (you feel that when you give the fuel cap the last push to close it).

Underneath the spring washer it's a o-ring, could be a idea to check that one also.....

I feel your pain 88! Sometimes I get up extra early to spend time in the garage or go for a quick blast before the clan emerge but most often the bike gets squeezed to a greater or lesser degree and I get grumpy! Very Happy

I stand corrected Inge. I thought that they had that but looking through all my pictures of Ks the only one I can find like that is a K75 RT and I could not be real sure it is correct.

Bloody H**l, that's my fate too! I've a bike in pieces in the garage and the basement, wanting to be worked upon and all I can find the time to do is house renovations and work. Absolutely no time available to devote to the reconstruction. I guess it will be the end of the 2013 riding season before I get a chance, given the length of my Honey Do list. Sad

Thanks guys...I have seen a few RT's with the added roundel so that's why I asked. It's coming off.

Inge, yes it does rotate a bit and I was afraid to ask about removing the dome bit on the fuel cap; I'll have a go at removing it without breaking something! I did get an o ring in the fuel cap "rebuild" kit, so now I know what that's for.

Next items to attack: handlebar switches, clutch arm/boot and rear brake cylinder.

Most probably your brake hoses is as old as the bike.

The manufacturing month & year is printed on the hose, you just need to clean it a bit....like Caferacer62 have done.

Blakey, if you see any more of those white zip ties, just put your sunnies on...won't look that bad.
Looking good.......the bike will be a pearler.

Well, went to replace the rear brake reservoir today...and then I spotted this, that and a few more things. I hate that.

I went through four bits of timber trying to bash the living crap remove the alternator, when it dawned on me that I may do a bit more investigating. Thinking really slows you down, doesn't it!

I'm joking about the wood... Wink

Anyhoo...
so I removed the starter to give it a clean and check the length of the brushes...all good. New seals. Refitted it. Happy happy joy joy. But...

...two bolts and the alternator will be free for a clean. Two bolts and the alternator will be free for a clean.
Bash, thump, bash thump. BASH, WHAT THE HELL, THUMP. You damned stupid alternator!
YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME!

I HAVE TIMBER.

I HAVE MALLET!

Oh...there it is. Embarassed

Free for a clean. Brushes are fine. Refit and all is well with the world.

Fresh nuts! Get yer fresh nuts here!

So, in all a good day. The girls learnt a few new words...the neighbour suddenly returned the drill he's had for the last month and I'm sure that was a Police helicopter flying overhead...

I wonder whether you are a man of strong religious convictions. I know of someone who says God's name everytime something doesn't fit......not bad if it on a Sunday.

My usual is FOR F&*%S SAKE!

A mate at work said that he use to say it a lot at his place...until he took his son to Kindergarten one day and heard his son say it when the tower of blocks fell over!
