Hello,

Looking to buy a K 100 / K 75 tank bag. I already have the one for K 1100 - but side hinges don't fit my tank, so whenever I touch them with knees during the ride they pop off the tank. Then I have to stop and reattach them  Rolling Eyes

Of course if someone wants to exchange his K 100 bag for mine, that would be perfect solution too...

Cheers
Tarik

You're best off buying a complete setup. Not all tank bag base zippers are the same/compatible.

Thanks - but I already knew that: there are right now two base plates with a different zippers (before and after 9'85 models) on eBay:

www.ebay.com/itm/360516712789
www.ebay.com/itm/360516712654

Only, it's quite a hefty price - and having it shipped from USA to Europe does not make them more accessible...

Non of them would fit your K11 bag.

I thought the one with two zippers would suit? This is mine:

All four different baseplates got two zippers.

If you look at the two older models (Multivario & Multivario I) in the ebay links, they have short straight zippers.
The one you need (Multivario 95) got long zippers, which turns 90 degr. at the rear end.

The part # for the baseplate you need is 71 60 2 340 658.

Huh, I'm so disappointed. Just went and bought a universal tank bag with magnetic panels which attach to the side of the tank - only they won't stick. I got a heavy duty magnet to test, in case there was something wrong with the magnets inside the bag - no joy!! The tank must be made of some compound which magnets don't stick to.

Anyone know how the BMW ones attach and is there another solution. Didn't want to pay the hundreds of pounds being asked for a BMW bag, this one only cost a tenner, so not a big loss if it won't do.

What do you guys recommend?

Tanks are aluminium, non magnetic so magnetic ones don't work. There is a Bagster option too. But the BMW tank bag and raincover are great.

I have a magnetic bag and put 6 round steel discs on the tank with double sided tape. I intend to get a tank cover made and have some steel pieces sewn into it.
I had the tank bag when I had the R80 and as it is a really good bag I didnt want to get something else.

Keep an eye out on ebay or your local equivalent.

As you may already know, the BMW ones are specifically made for the curvature of the tank and fit like a glove.

Chase up a real one, you won't be sorry.

I have had a BMW tank bag for my K1100 for many years and recently did a trial fit up on my K75 to see if I could use it on both  bikes.
K75 tank does not have the clips on the tank to take hooks that are on the bag, however by using 25mm wide webbing straps through the gap at the bag hooks and around the frame it fitted quite securely.

I'll take some photos tomorrow and post for you before you spend money on another bag.

Cheers

Wow, what a lot of great idea's. I like both your options Rick G, going to ask my friendly furniture upholsterer of the feasibility of him making me one with in-built metal plates. Also can't wait to see your pictures Gaz80, your method sounds interesting.

Been a busy weekend for me with domestic type stuff - needs to be done as I am heading off on my week long 3,500 km round trip to the Oz MotoGP round at Phillip Island this Wednesday morning, so a bit slow with the tank bag photos.

I've had my BMW K1100 tank bag since 1998 and it has been great. I only acquired the K75 a couple of years ago as a project bike from a wrecker and had it on the road since early this year. A few weeks ago while contemplating this next trip I thought about trying the tank bag on the K75, but being a different tank the brackets that fit on the K1100 tank can not be mounted on the K75 tank. After looking at the bag base section sitting on the K75 for a while I worked out a method of securing the bag base to the K75 tank which I believe will work for me - please note that I have not toured with this setup as yet; it is only a trial fit-up.

For those not familiar with the BMW bag base (look closely and you will see that I made a "saddle blanket" of two layers of felt that fits under the base to help protect the tank).

The front end clips over the front edge of the tank immediately behind the steering head. I think other brand tank bags use a strap around the frame at the steering head.

These tank bags are the full triple stacker sandwich about 400 mm high. I have only ever used the top and bottom layers. I reckon you could tour for a month just in the tank bag if you used it all.

The two tails on the base have stretch sections with a hook on the end which connect to matching brackets mounted on the lower rear edge of the tank in their natural habitat of the K1100.

Since the K75 does not have that facility I threaded a webbing strap through the small gap at the end of the elastic stretch section where it joins onto the metal bracket and then around the pin welded on the frame which I think normally holds the rubber for the sidecover to mount to. Note that my K75 is a work in progress and will not be given sidecovers. On other bikes a different attachment point for the strapping my need to be found.

The strapping used for this trial photo was 35 mm wide. The first try was with 25 mm wide and the narrower strapping pulled to one side of the slot I fed it through. I intend to get some 40 mm wide if I can which will be a neat fit. The strap and my "saddle blanket" will protect the tank from being scratched (I hope) by the metal hook on the end of the tail.

Due to the difference in curvature between the two tanks the fit of the base to the K75 at the rear of the tank is not as good as it is on the K1100 but I'm sure it will do since it will save buying another bag.

Hope this little gallery gives others some ideas.

Cheers

Thanks Inge. I'll make a note of that and keep an eye on ebay. I would certainly be interested in finding a base if one comes up but wouldn't buy a second tank bag. Prefer to get by with my strap solution if needed. I usually use the tank bag when I'm travelling two up.

Cheers

Few years ago, I was in France during the summer sales.
I was looking at a discounted tank bags and the guy beside me grabbed one at a 50% discount.
I then engaged a conversation with him and learned that he was riding a K bike.
The problem was that he got a tank bag holding with magnets and didn't know that the tank on the K bikes are made from aluminium (yes aluminium and not aluminum as most people call it in N.A.).
He was happy that we had a talk before he paid for the bag Very Happy
