I would use the grades that BMW recommend in a synthetic which will give you a longer life between changes
Gearbox and final drive SAE80w-90 hypoid gear oil.

how do you know an oil is synthetic? most of the oils i see in the market here don't have any label on them to indicate whether their synthetic or not.

A synthetic oil also handles much higher temperatures, but if you can't get it .......

If it doesn't say synthetic on it then it probably isn't.  If you can't get synthetic then I'd use Castrol GTX 20/50 if you  can find it.

Yes it will. It will be better than a mineral in your hot climate. I use 5W40 full synthetic here in the south of France and it gets quite hot here in the summer.

When I can't get Mobil 1 15-50 at Walmart (they're out of stock a lot) I use Shell Rotella 5-40 synthetic.

Be very careful of car filters. Most of them are painted on the outside, and not designed for use inside the engine as the K bikes. Paint may come off them when immersed in hot oil, causing blockage of oil ways with disastrous results. Proper K bike filters are not painted.

Oil filter - Bosch 72161.  They often have a sticker on them.  Remove it before installing.

I don't know how often the dealer lists at BMW is updated, so I don't know if this one in
your neighbour country still exists.
The search facility says that it should be several dealers in Togo.

You could try to find one in the countries nearby, go to BMW motorrad international,
locate a dealer.

Is this a real concern? I have just fitted such a filter (Filtrex branded) ~20 miles ago, eeep! I didn't know that it sat in oil until half a litre fell out the engine onto the floor either when I tried to be clever and see if it leaked past the seal, what a stupid design! Why bother with a canister type filter at all??
