We had an excellent meet up at Stradbally Fayre in 2012 and 2013 on the Saturday after the August Bank Holiday. 2012 was the first time of the Irish Eccentrics meeting up.

This year the Saturday falls on 9th August? Are we still on for it? My own plan is to head up to Nore Valley on Friday 8th for a camping weekend. For those who have never been, Nore Valley is very biker friendly, has excellent showers, indoor television lounge, campers kitchen with cooker/ware, microwave, washing up facilities and home baking for breakfast. Camps pitches are elevated over the river facing the rising sun. There is a crazy golf and I will put up a bottle of wine for the winner of a round of golf, just to get the (golf) ball rolling!! Bjorn, 88KE and myself have been and enjoyed it.

There are some B&Bs not too far.

Tom Foley mentioned the Faugheen 50 Road Races the same weekend so if there is consensus we could meet at Stradbally Fayre and head off to enjoy some sport as well. Nore Valley is close enough to do both, maybe a BBQ evening at the camp site.

So, any thoughts on the subject? Any takers?

Sounds really good! Would definitely be up for that! Which bit of Ireland would i need to get the boat to?

I must stay sharper. Nearly missed this post.
Sounds good, but think I'll stick to a B&B.
Boat from Holyhead to Dublin would be the handiest, Becky. It's not that far from Dublin and the roads are good and well signposted.
Depending on what boat you arrive on, I'm sure some of us could meet you and guide you through this strange place. It's full of freestaters!

John,

I only put this up late this afternoon so its fresh.

Becky/Paul,

Both places are very easy to find. Stradbally is just 6 miles off the M8 motorway, no turn offs. You would make it off the ferry arriving in Dublin Saturday morning.

Nore Valley www.norevalleypark.com is about 4 miles off J9 on the M9. You would easily make that on Friday evening from the ferry. Max 2 hours from the ferry. Only problem is the ferry lands you in Dublin rush hour traffic but Paul Lipscomb will fill you in on that. Traffic will be much lighter than Pal experienced. Option is take an earlier ferry but that depends on work.

Comberjohn knows the place better than anyone. He knows all the nice roads and cant stay away. I just hope his new K1600 wont have any problem interfacing with elderly Ks.....

So are we counting you in?

Takes me 2 hours from Cork and its a nice route. Cork to Cahir to Clonmel to Kilkenny, a right turn before Kilkenny for Bennettsbridge, Danesford, towards Stoneyford [cross over J9 on the M9], left at the old church and its on the right about 2 miles.

I hope to go Friday morning but will see.....

Ditto - but as I am now Mr. Mom it depends on childcare! I shall put in my annual request for fair weather to the Met office and maybe look at a bit of route planning.

Yes the Faugheen 50 Road Races are on the 9/10 Aug. Practice and Classic race on Sat and full race programme on Sun. As we start work on the circuit at 5.30ish during,  and for some time prior,  to the event I will be unable to make the 'Fayre. I will be on duty in the village on both days so if anyone from the K club are about do call and say hello. If anyone wants to help in whatever way possible you will be most welcome.

Tom, John

That's a lovely post and bet it was a surprise to meet Comberjohn on the ferry. That's what makes this forum so great. Lots of foreign trips with the Ks.....though some go without their bikes but we will forgive Fintan, sort of.

Anyway we hope you make our August trip.......

Dammit. My secret is out.
I was within a couple of miles of Nore Valley last weekend. Was doing the Irish Photo Rally and stopped at Courtown for the night. Covered about 500 miles and got five more photos. Went to a memorial sculpture near Callan on the Sunday morning.

Nice photos John. The K looks good too.

But you have my sympathies staying in Courtown. Been there twice in the last 30 years and its not on my list of places to stay although there are some nice places around it.

Hope we see you in August. And September.

Aye, Courtown wouldn't be on the tourist trail. But it was after eight in the evening and I needed somewhere to stay.
Found a hotel that was a bit tired but got a room with a sea view, staff were very nice and a good breakfast.

I would have liked to have joined this little trip, but every time I point my bike to the north it can see rain in the distance and turns itself around. It seems to end up at a bar in Rouffignac that has a strange Irish BMW badge on the door. Bruno has the coffee ready every time.

We would not know anything about a strange Irish BMW badge on the door of a bar in Rouffignac. Maybe someone should go along and check it out.

Funny thing is we left Rouffignac to head north. And it was raining. A short few hours later we were in fabulous sunshine on the A83 heading for Nantes. What rain? Never saw any rain after that.

Jude and yourself would be very welcome if you take a trip north. Funny thing is our bikes keep trying to head south. Only for the fact that I must take my daughter to Antwerp in early September I would be checking out this Brunos again. Have to have a word with 88KE about next May. . . .

Hey, I've been down that road too!

May you say?  Well the Irish marking was not there when I visited ......... in May.

And the bastard rain is visiting here at the moment.  The only plus sign is that it means heaps of snow in the Oz Alps, where I will be in another month.  Very Happy

How would it be to meet at Stradbally Fayre at 9.30 on the Saturday morning, have breakfast and head to Faugheen taking a long road?

I am planning on camping at Nore Valley on Thursday. Sagi has the week off and think we might make it there Thursday. Invite also out for 88KE and anyone one else who feels like some camping. Could organise a BBQ there for the Friday and/or Saturday.

Sagi may come too, he is off that week and we discussed going on Wednesday. He is in Cork and has a K75.

Spoke to Bjorn today and he is checking his work schedules. Looks like a bbq at Nore Valley Thursday and or Friday?? BBQs are available on the site. That night get 88KE along!!

If anyone is coming let me know and I will try to keep a few tent spaces. 88KE and myself had a lovely pitch there in June.

Last year 88KE, Bjorn and myself had some nice elevated pitches that were private.

Looks like this now:

Sagi [Thursday/Friday]
92KK [Wednesday]
Bjorn [Wednesday but checking work schedule]
Cluain Si [Thursday/Friday] Weather permitting.
88KE [Friday]
Pat O'D (Friday)

I will try and sort something out to keep us together once I know how many spaces we need. Bjorn will not be staying on after Friday night, he is going on holiday.

There are BBQs up there we can use so will bring some briquettes or charcoal. I brought my own BBQ last time but not planning this time but will take the utensils too.

Following some discussion off forum it looks like a few of us will be at Nore Valley for Friday. I am planning to go a little earlier and aiming for Wednesday. Sagi's work arrangements changed so if I make it Wednesday am likely to be on my own.

There is an open sided barn building we can use for a bbq if the weather is less than ideal. The nearest shop [Centra, very near the stone bridge] is at Bennettsbridge about 2 miles from the camp site.

A few takers for bbq on Friday anyway...

Rather than making everyone stop on the way for bbq stuff I would be happy to organize finding some bbq goodies and sort the bbq out. BBQ is on site and I will bring some fuel. I know not everyone will make it up early on Friday so this may help. Just let me know what the wine and food preferences are. A pack of plastic cutlery and paper plates might not go astray so I can organise these too if we are not all bringing ware etc. Krauser K2 panniers are 42 litre [each] so we wont be going hungry. There is a kitchen with a microwave and full size cooker.

What sort of time is best?

I saw a post too for Saturday that starts with breakfast at Stradbally Fayre and a route that takes us to Faugheen and back to Nore Valley so another bbq Saturday is on the cards.

Again, just give me some idea. We can keep the bbq for Saturday.

Meeting at Stradbally on Saturday morning is my only option unfortunately.

Breakfast and then to Faugheen ?

Maybe we can all meet at Faugheen later in the day, some starting at the camp site others from Stradbally ?

I know it sounds long way but I had in mind to go from camp site to Stradbally.......we all need breakfast and it seems a shame to miss the breakfast.

I have done it before and its about 60km, was about 45minutes.

Meeting at Stradbally on Saturday is my only option as well.  Might be just you and me Simon  Very Happy

I then am going to meet the previous owner of the LT to pick up the original seat.  Irenes legs are just toooooo looong to sit comfortably on the Corbin seat. So I'm trying the original one first before getting a peg lowering kit.

So won't be going to Faugheen. The next time you see me will be in Norn Iron in Sept  bounce  bounce  bounce

I am planning to head to Stradbally for the breakfast so count me in.

I was looking at a Corbin seat yesterday, on a K75 that lives in Crosshaven.!!

I was quietly amazed at how similar it is to the Comfort seat on my LT.  But to the best of my knowledge both of these seats are higher than the standard seats. I have a [lack of] height issue and wanted to swap to a standard seat which was lower but I never did. Standard seat on my RT by comparison is crap by comparison but very significantly lower.

My thought: be prepared to keep the Corbin and drop the pegs.

The problem with the corbin is that there is about an inch & a half used at the back where you can slot down the pole for a backrest. This pushes the scallopped bum-bit forwards. So when Irene is sitting in the scallopped bit, she is pushed forwards and her knees are too bent. Se feels that she should be further back . This should be possible in the original seat

Failing that, it's peg-dropping.
