Hi folks, Corkboy put me on to your forum from the K11og site. Drove a K75 for years in London, even did my honeymoon around europe on it. That was a while ago. After a long gap,I Found myself back in the shed messing with bikes last year ( 2 MZ ts 250's ), and the WD40 got back into the blood. Recently slightly upgraded myself to a K1100RS, which spent most of the summer in my shed..New stentions, fork seals, service, plus juicy new road pilot 3 tyres. Well she's up and running like a dream, recently covered over 800km on the wild alantic Way route.
corkboy mentioned that you guys are going on a trip up north. Was wondering is there room for 1 more? would love to hear what a gang of K's would sound like.

Bonjour agus failte romhat go dti an teach K!

I couldn't resist that. You are most welcome and we would love to have you on that trip north. If you want to stay over we are travelling up M1 on Friday 19th September, probably meeting around M1 toll or M1 Balbriggan services around 6pm. Depending on where you are east to Dublin and up M50 M1 may be your fastest option.

Kilkeel is a lovely fishing village 30km along the A2 coast road from Newry. We got a Groupon deal for the weekend so if you go to Groupon.com and seek Kilmorey Hotel, in Kilkeel there was an offer for €89 for 2 nights BB for 2 people and also a further one including 1 dinner. So we stay Friday and Saturday night.

Don't worry about internet scams, we did the same thing at the same hotel last year and it was great. I will look later and see if i can find it. I am booked in to share with Corkboy but there might be a spare half room in what's already booked.

Corkboy and myself are in the same neck of the woods. Even meet at the supermarket. He did mention you might be in contact.

The selection of Ks looks like: K1 K1100LT K1100RS K100LT K100RS K100RT K1600 K1200LT Honda VFR and possibly K75.

Welcome Reg. I'm a regular visitor to Galway, sometimes by bike! The K1100RS is, for my money, the most modern looking of the fleet and holds it's own in the most modern of company. I missed one for very good money in Wexford about a year ago, to my regret.

I hopew you do make it to the North, it looks like one of the biggest gatherings of K riders yet. If not we will see you at another get together. Enjoy the forum.

88 aka Will

Welcome to the forum Reg,

As you can tell, there is so much more to it than just technical knowhow (and there is no shortage of that!) ... News, views, humour and even ride outs from all corners of the world.

Hope you can make the Klan Norn gathering on 19/20 Sep - I'm one of a few interlopers crossing the Irish Sea to join the eccentric gang that weekend - one visit to the Emerald Isle this year was just not enough for me, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Paul,

Looking forward to meeting up again!!!

Link for hotel for Reg [the offer is still up there!!]: http://www.groupon.ie/deals/cork/ga-kilmorey-arms-hotel-1-4/43724319

Who knows...maybe some other year we might even tempt someone to come right side up. After all we do still drive on the left......despite what some told Becky!!!

Let us know when you book the ferry, we will try to organise a link up but in fact it is very easy to find if you end up doing it on your own. We found it last year despite a satnav taking us long way round. Word of warning- do not use a satnav to find the place. Simply exit the M1 for Newry and follow the A2 from Newry. A2 goes round the coast and its a lovely road. Kilkeel is on the A2.

Now I happen to know there are a few K75s in Galway......one is an Ultima west of Galway. Wonder will any of them surface.....

Olaf,

Looks like there is going to be a great turn out. I am waiting on the next payday before I book the ferry, but would aim to RV at the M1 toll (or thereabouts) at 6pm, if that works. Your words of caution about satnav are heeded - I will use satnav, but use the road signs as the primary means of getting to Kilkeel.

Welcome to the forum, Reg.
Don't hear much about MZ's these days. My first legal road bike was a 1972 MZ 250 ETS. Leading link forks, four speed and combined tank/headlight. Indicators on the ends of the bars.
I'm heading down your way tomorrow. Doing the Irish Photo Rally and have booked into the Hydro Hotel in Lisdoonvarna tomorrow night.
Hope you can make it up north next month.

welcome Reg, welcome to the best bike ever made forum, i'm a bit bias, but having worked on a few various makes, I love the BM K inline series, so simple, though the electricks can be tricky sometimes, but not a problem if you can read a schematic and meter. I toured Ireland after the Iom in 2012, went right round, did Galway, loved it, Westport and the Atlantic ridewas lovely, saw where the Spanish Aramada came to grief, loved it, though 7C in cork in summer was a bit like having snow in New Zealand at Christmas, it does happen on the alpine passes sometimes.

Well Reg, I just missed that part about the MZs.... That was the bike I started on, rare ould times in the GDR Smile Are they up and running? Going up to Mayo for a couple of days at the end of October, would be nice to show the girls what a good old MZ looks like if you don't mind. I'll give you a shout beforehand, hope we can meet up there.

That weekend up Norn Iron was great. Was great Reg made it up too. Galway to Cork is about 3 hours, had an idea of an occasional meet up and Clare would be a good bet. Now all you need is an MZ for the trip up. I love that whee putt putt sound.

By the way I like the boxer engine on your messages. But one thing intrigues me. It only fires on one side, left hand cylinder has no spark. A bit like a K, sparks are all on one side.

You'd better stop that now lads, before I go berserk... It was just a couple of weeks ago after doing service on the bike - changed oil, oil filter, plugs, some seals, air filter and fuel filter - that after re-assembling the bike she was running on one cylinder only. 20 minutes to take all the fairings off again, 30 seconds to find and rectify the fault, 30 seconds to test, 20 minutes to build her up again Sad That was the day I was crying for a good old MZ250....

You're right, I have just checked it and although there is a spark it's not quite the same color (and therefore seems fade) as the right hand side one. Whenever I have the time for it, I'll fix that.

The second cylinder in the R isn't just 'for visual balance', Where does this second throtthe cable go? Oh, look, another cylinder, way out the far side. Wonder does it work?. . .But it does, R was going well up North.

Mind you don't trip over the end of the exhaust when you walk round the back of the MZ.

I can picture you and Reg up in Leenane having a beer and discussing the relative merits of a Dunlop K70 on the MZ!!

All right, convinced. Stick with the Beemer. Such a hard decision Smile

Just gave my old (May 2009) D409 helmet a complete inside and outside wash before placing her into spares - retirement age is reached. But the Duke does fine.

If only I had her running (the MZ that is), I have a second engine put together, but haven't managed to fit it yet.
Just back from a great weekend on the K, Galway to Dingle, Main roads, Returned Dingle to Galway Via WAW route, With ferry crossing to Kilrush.. Weather was perfect.
One thing about these K11's , They do lost of miles (Fast)...

I love when people pull up beside the MZ at traffic lights, with that --"ah look at the little old motorbike"kinda look.
Then green light, after 2-3 mins of them smelling the twostroke from the shotgun exhaust...There expression changes to "WTF" is that...Greetings from Galway Bay Icon_rabbit

Yeah, the smell is kinda unique Smile Calling it a small bike though - when I was young they were considered mid-range at the least, a 500cc those days counted as big. We also had 2-stroke cars when I was a child - our first one was a Trabant 601, followed by the spacious and luxurious Wartburg 353 Smile After that I changed to Škoda and with them since....

But you're right, the BMW tourers are rather for the high mileage. I'll give you a shout whenever our plans turn into reality
