Hi all

I have acquired a 88 RS that is in a fairly bad state at the moment. Rescued if from a shed where it has been sitting for the last few years. The poor thing has lost all of its fairings and has a dinged front rim along with slightly bent front forks and other minor bits missing
Only took me about 2 minutes to get the old girl fired up and running, so at least it runs.
Have got a K100 solo seat coming so looking to go naked instead of trying to put it back to original.
Joined up here to tap into the wealth of knowledge and I'm sure the banter as in other forums.
Its my 1st BMW and my 1st project bike so its going to be a learning curve.

Welcome to the forum.

Now first things first. Don't fire it up! Check out on the home page what to do if you have just bought a K. Reason being you don't want to clog up injectors etc etc. Clan fuel tank and change fuel filter before you run it again, clean the old fuel out of the fuel lines. You don't want the fuel filter blocked and you don't want the stuff blocking the injectors. Ideally you should change the fuel lines as they perish with age and can crack- they are pressurised and if they crack will spray fuel and you don't want that. They are cheap and easy to do.

Front rim will be easy to come by, so will forks. If you replace forks some put a K1100 front end on to the K100 but you should pick up the K100 forks easily. New tyres a must due to age hardening.

In a shed presumably means in the dry under cover so she may not be bad.

Well you are sort of correct!
The wheel in the picture is a replacement for the bent one that came on the bike, and it actually arrived in the workshop before the rest did.
