Greetings,

Just picked up an 85 K100RT for $500.  53,000 miles, garaged, but hasn't run since 2004.  Turpentine and varnish in the fuel tank but no rust.  In the process of cleaning up the tank and replacing fuel pump, filter, etc.  Hope the injectors are cleanable.  The are pricey to replace.  Also doing other fluids today...engine, trans, radiator.  Anybody know the lifespan of radiator hoses?  I plan to inspect the inside of one or two when I drain the system.  Certainly don't want to blow one 500 miles from nowhere.

This is my second project bike.  First is a 1977 Yamaha XS650 with 2000 original miles also garaged.  That fuel tank and the two CV carbs took a month to clean up but it runs perfectly with only a little oil weeping from the
right case.

Thanks much to all who contribute.  I have picked up quite few tips already!!

Regards,
Willie

Welcome Willie, I think your find must be one of the best values I've heard of lately.  You stole it!
I don't think you'll need to replace the radiator hoses.  My 1985 K100RS has the originals and they are still in good shape.
You can send the injectors to Mr. Injector in Spokane (?) for cleaning and testing.  Or, there are other non-BMW items that may be substituted if you want to go that route.  I think they're Ford items, but you'll have to do the research yourself.  I simply had mine cleaned and I couldn't be happier with the results.  However, the bike I bought only had 22K miles on the clock at that time.

Tank is clean.  Learned from the forum to use Oxy Clean.  Works like a champ!  Took a couple of tankfuls including cleaning up the disintegrated fuel pump vibration damper.  I have a new fuel pump on order (not cheap) but I'd like to test this one to see if if works.  I assume that with it sitting in 10 year old fuel it is shot but I have it soaking in Oxy. Anyone test fire a fuel pump outside of the tank?

should be possible

just be aware to have it sitting in some fuel and a hose on the outlet back into the container
the pumps get warm- hot without flow of fuel through them ...not only the motor but the rollers in the pump housing itself

Can I direct connect it to the battery without going through the fuse box?   Otherwise I'll connect
it to the fuel gauge (also out of the tank now) and through the bike's electrical system.  Would
be easier on a workbench directly to the battery.

Also, great tip on getting injectors cleaned at Mr. Injector.  Website - http://www.mrinjector.us/
$16 each plus about $6 shipping.  He claims injectors rarely go bad...just get dirty.  Hell of
a lot better than buying new ones for $200.  Mr. Injector is in Coeur d'Alene, ID about and hour
from Spokane, WA.  If you are in that area, he has 24 hour turn around.

There is also a Walla Walla in NSW, Australia. It is between Wagga Wagga and Albury.

While we're in double names, there is also Mogill Mogill and Goonoo Goonoo in Australia. The tricky part for those two is that the first part is pronounced differently to the second part.

There is also Woy Woy, beloved place of Spike Milligan, but no pronunciation problems with that one.

Cheers,

Bill

on a sort of recent trip bill I noticed that "gunny Goonoo" was no longer named that (Goonoo Goonoo ) ...by the new direction sign on the highway ...I was watching for it ...but it never came ...there was however a similar but no where near the same as what I remember signage
I think it just said Goonoo

have friends and relatives, past an present round those areas  north of willowtree

I thought about this when I hit tamworth ....sad how things change eh ?!!!! ( I blame all those accountants in the vast neverland of unrealistic expectations who seem to govern without being voted in to any real position of authority )

Welcome Walla Walla Willie. Is that a free range Willie? This forum, it's a good place for obtaining Knowledge.

Walla Walla is also famous for its onions, but the penitentiary is only the second largest in the state. The largest being in Connell Connell Surprised and it's called Coyote Ridge.

While we're on (Australian, at least) double names, let's not forget the Bungle Bungles in W.A., Bang Bang and Keri Keri in NSW, Koorack Koorack, Diddah Diddah and Lang Lang in Victoria, Bogga Bogga and Booka Booka in Queensland, and good ol' Woop Woop too! That's out back o' Bourke well beyond the Black Stump.

Welcome Walla Walla Willie.

Wasn't Wagga Wagga originally called Wagga Wagga Wagga, but it sounded silly so they shortened it to Wagga Wagga?

...and mountain near me is called Ngun Ngun (part of the Glass House Mountains).

Probably going to find this hard to believe but I lived in Wagga Wagga 71-75 at 224 Burke Street.
My dad worked for the Riverina College of Advanced Education. I learned to play rubgy league
and Aussie rules.  Favorite team was Eastern Suburbs back when Artie Beeson played.  The won the championship while I was there.

Wagga Wagga to Walla Walla...go figure!

It truly is a good morning in Wagga! We've stopped here for the night after making our way down from Queensland. It's been an easy four day ride so far over many fine roads and not too many main roads.

Good Morning from Walla Walla, WA Img_4110

We'll be in Clunes, Victoria this arvo, going over some more fine roads. The weather is clear and cold at night but sunny and warm days.

Good Morning from Walla Walla, WA Imag0710

The Mighty K sings! No oil use, no flats, no rattles, but the fuel gauge quit intermittently (a dirty connection).

Just down the road from Wagga Wagga is a town also called Walla Walla.

Rock on.

Welcome Willie!

Ahh, Walla Walla. Flaming hot in the summer, freezing cold in the winter. Gota love it.

I spend a lot of time in the winters here in the Northeast working on my RT, see the link in my signature for some of my mods.

Enjoy the ride.
