I don't think I would let that anywhere near a ally bike wheel. It doesn't seem to grip the opposite side rim to break the bead. Hard to tell a lot without seeing it work but that says buckled wheels to me.

Must stress would need see it in action for a better opinion.

The post wont go through the centre of the wheel and you need to remove the discs.
I had a look around a while ago and this is about the pick of them http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Multi-Tyre-Changer-and-Bead-Breaker-Rim-Edge-Clamps-/200758129588?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebe1df3b4

2 weeks ago rode up to my local Honda dealership, which is right beside the BMW one.....

Parked the bike and went for a coffee.

An hour later I get a call, bike now ready, new Bridgestone BT45 on the front. €120 fitted and balanced.

I used to fit tyres but with alloy wheels and so on I don't bother and no longer seems to be worth it. Trick in my opinion, if you do enough riding, is a spare set of wheels with tyres on and just interchange them so they don't go old on you. If you have a spares bike just keep the tyres good.

My front gave me 11 months, my rear looks like about 8 months at best. Due to lots of use of the bike, not premature wear.

Imagine coming out some morning and finding a puncture, then simply swapping wheels and being on your way....Or, get a puncture away from home and being able to send for a spare wheel....

I think that's a good idea 92KK
I'm about to fit radials front and back and for a little while now I've been thinking about having two sets of wheels so I can easily swap to a setup more suitable for comuting and save the radials for my touring. My usage is roughly 50/50. Anyone done that??

So are you going to bid on the ebay changer nigel. If you want to go $150 on it. I will go 5/50 with you. Not worth paying more because it's got the rubber rim protectors missing for a start and it's out near Dubbo.

Also If you get a flat somewhere reasonably close, and just want to get the bike home, then i have a spare set of wheels sitting on my 2nd K.at Tuckarimba.

I like the luxury of having a second set of wheels that i can swop to share out the tyre wear and have ready for a flat.

Think you'll find that you can only get metzlers here in a radial. Correst me if i'm wrong but the original K 11 tyre was a 120/90 but when i went to buy a tyre couple of months ago, there was only a 130/80 radial so not much choice. The metzler is the 880 marathon which seems to be wearing well.

I'm not bidding on that David. I'd maybe offer him $100 but I don't think its worth any more. Its close to Mudgee actually but from up our way its still a distance.

I'm ordering from the US next month and will be fitting myself.

Hey Kyle. That's the rear I'm after and right size but the date on that tyre says 0506 so a bit too old and at $60 +$83 frt to Oz... that's close to sale price for a new tyre.

Cheers mate

My main reason for looking at a tyre changer is the cost of the tyres.

I can follow Rick's link and get tyres more than $100 cheaper than in Oz.

Take them to the only guy in the area to have them fitted and he charges at least $50.

One set of tyres or two on spare rims, I still have to pay for fitting.

I wouldn't put on a tyre 2009 or earlier. 2006 is scrap. Wet weather riding would be bad to the point of dangerous.

If you store tyres on a thick black plastic sheet then the UV can't get at them and they remain quite pliable for a long time.
I have seen 30 year old tyres that have been near as good as new because they have been stored in a near dark back room of a workshop.
It's the UV that does the majority of damage not time.

Yeah they could still be ok. I've read claims by manufacturers of 6 to 10 years if stored properly, but at US$143 landed in Oz when you can buy a set from RockyMountain for around US$315 incl frt to Oz, I'd prefer the brand newies.

Rosskko This thread has a post on fitting tyres
https://www.k100-forum.com/t7457-choice-of-tyres-tires
and there's lots of how to's on Youtube. There's a guy that shows how to break the bead using a garden shovel. Laughing Have to admit it was probably the easiest method I've seen without using expensive tools.

Rick, on that US site you listed there were Me880s at $125-199US but there wasn't a 130 /90 x 17 that i could see, so what price for one? (in order to compare)

I can't see that by the time you do the US conversion and pay the freight, its worth bothering with the hassle when you can buy the same tyre for $200 here.

i also can't understand how we can expect to have any bike shops or stocking anything much when everyone is
just thinking that buying on the net is only about saving a few dollars.

Ongmac in Lismore may want a few dollars more than some outfit up on the Gold Coast for getting a tyre but Rob there is so pleasant to deal with that you feel like supporting him.

One time, Lismore had lots of bike shops. now most of them are gone. We probably paid a part in that.

Do you want me to do the 'contact member' thing so that i get his phone number before the auction closes (no bids) and the listing disappears. If so, I can leave it, and then contact him  later with an offer. I'd be happy to pay $100 (50 each and you can keep it at your place).

Doesn't that mean the tyre was made in May 06. Eight years old . Must have started to go hard.

5th week of 2006. Yeah... its getting on.

Re the tyre changer. Wouldn't hurt to contact him but you gotta think if its worth it. It'll cost a bit to freight all the way up here.

On that site you have to select your tyre size before it gives you the price, then if you 'add to cart' and then select another tyre etc... go to checkout and select Australia for delivery the freight will be added. About US$60 for 2 tyres I think.
I think the biggest tyres you'll fit are front: 110/80-18 and rear: 140/80-17 if you're after radials.
