Having looked around for various parts for my Bike build and seen some awesome bikes it seems to me there are a number of differant tank sizes in the K series petrol tanks or should I go back to spec-savers and get my eyes tested again lol.
If I'm right could you telll me what model has the largest tank for my diesel k100 bike project.

Not so much sizes as accessories, as far as I know. Some have rubber pads etc.

I researched one thing though, remove the battery from where it is and you can make a 5-6 litre tank to fit in that space, more if you lose the storage under the seat.. Move the fuel pump into it and have a removable panel at the side to access it. I works with the standard petrol tank and retains the flow and return spigots as they are.

thats an interesting thought, I look into that if I can't find a bigger tank for the project. Cheers for the feedback.

Alan, when your frame arrives, have a look as to how the tank fixes.

 Early tanks have a plate bolted across the frame with a single central threaded hole for the tank fixing.

Later tanks have two pegs that locate into rubber bushes which fit into lugs on the frame tubes. The pegs are then held with clips. 

Getting the right tank for your frame will save you some modification work.

Another thought, but may not apply in UK. We have classic rules that kick in at 30 years, so a 1984 or 1985 frame might be a good idea if these rules are of benefit to you........Our Road Fund reduces from €88 to €26.......

Not much Sidecar Paul doesn't know about K bikes.....you two should meet some time.

The tank is in the garage Paul but the 2 lugs do ring a bell its a BMW K100RT 1985 frame if that helps, am I right in thinking there are differant size tanks or was I right about going to spec-savers lol.

Can you get the number from the right hand side of the frame. The last 5 digits will do it, these can be matched to the date of manufacture and model type.

AFAIK, all the K100 tanks are nominally the same capacity.

You won't get much more than 22 litres (5.81 US gallons/4.83 Imp gallons) into a K100/K1100 tank and about 21 litres into a K75 tank.

There are aftermarket adapters available which raise the cap for an additional (approx.) 1 litre.

Why not buy an old tank, split it and alu-weld in a centre section?

And there is always an exception the K100 basic of 1988era has the smaller K75c tank. About 3 litres smaller I seem to recall.

That 'basic' K100 tank, which is from a model that was never sold in the US, is the same as the K75 tank with 21 litres capacity.

If you have five or 6 digits enter it with one or two zeros first.....

As you said TWB the 22ltr's and an a adapter will be my maximim size. If I go for the K100/K1100 tank and get the adapter at a later stage, I hope I have not been to much of a pain about the tanks lads lol

I think that change was after August 1985. When K75 came on the market.
