I attended a training session for BMWNA today in rainy Seattle for about six hours to view and learn about a coupla exciting new models from BMW Motorrad. This weekend is the annual IMS and as dealers are requested to send a coupla employees to assist BMWNA at their booth I drew one of the straws - it's tough but....truth be told I am humbled to be able to see the new stuff earlier than most as it comes down the pike towards the market. I like the new tech in many ways and to be able to talk with some of those responsible for marketing it and even on occasion an engineer from AG, is truly special. I can make up my own mind about whether it'd be a bike for me at some stage down the track. I merely sip the Kool-Aid, blue lips and all. Wink

Here's a coupla happy snaps of four of the new models to be at the show.

2016 S1000XR (pre-release model), 160bhp, street-oriented, Ducati Multistrada fighter. A 33" seat height and plush 6" travel suspenders makes it one tall motorpickle! They call it an Adventure Tourer. It's based on the S1000R which is based on the award-winning 199 bhp S1000RR superbike.

2015 R1200R. A 125bhp standard roadster but with the new wasserboxer motor like the R1200GS and RT. Instead of Telelever it's got adjustable inverted forks. The options list is lengthy and the bike feels lighter (it actually is) than its predecessors, the Hexhead R1200R and Oilhead R850R/R1100R/R1150R.

The 2015 R1200RS. The same 125bhp motor and chassis as the R1200R roadster, but with a slim and elegant fairing reminiscent of the earlier R1200ST, R1150RS and R1100RS sports tourers, but perhaps edgier, if that word isn't overused. This one is sans Telelever as well. Me likey!

2015 S1000RR. The 199bhp superbike that the Japanese and Italians are still trying to catch. The New Kwacka H2 and the Yammie R1 might, but BMW made sure to level the playing field a bit this year with a lighter chassis, more HP (as if it was needed), better feel, higher tech and some wicked cool componentry. You could tour on it, but what a ball busta!

I hope you enjoy the view.

It bears repeating -- BMW is on a roll!  Thanks for posting those.

Thanks for sharing TWB.

Would be a privilege to chat to some of the engineers for sure.

I personally reckon (but what do I know) that the Adventure Tourer (not hardcore adventure) bikes are some of the most useful, practical yet immensely fun machines you can get your leg over.

The R1200R looks nice. Would prob be my pick of these 4. (after having raved about adventure tourers...)

The new crop of 200-300hp bikes just send shivers down my spine. ridiculous really (am I getting old?) insurance premiums and rego is sure to go up, no? Why anyone would want to have the responsibility of controlling that much power on the road is beyond me. Takes the pleasure out of it really. I struggle to stay legal on my camel of a 90hp K100!

This is a Honda. It seems to be a cross between a large displacement scooter, a metric cruiser and Dan Gurney's Alligator. I wonder if they'll sell or end up merely an expensive experiment.

I expect that sharp-edged Honda will turn out to be a lot like the Honda Rune (well, I think that was how it was marketed in the U.S.), a variant on the Goldwing some years back.  It's bound to be very controversial, and motorcyclists being a conservative lot I doubt it will sell well. I don't think I'd want one, even if I could fit on it.  There's a lot of plastic to buy if you tip it over.
