I puchased this off a breaker recently, sight unseen, I didn't realise it was a low seat version. Iv'e tried it on the bike and I would like to use it for a bit before deciding on keepin it long term. Any suggestion appreciated. I have an offer of the Plastic tank adaptor from Aus, do I need other bits?

The Russel seats are uggly, but.... They are very comfortable.
I have a day long model on the solo K100 and I would not replace it with anything else.
Russell Day long low seat. Russell
What is the secret of the comfort? Pound/square inch (PSI)!
These seats are very wide and the weight of your body is spread over a big surface. The difference with other aftermarket seats are the side wings.
This seat would not be adequate with the sidecar because I am always moving/shifting my body when turning. (My Corbin on the sidecar is already worn after only 2 years)

Bert, could you show how that seat is fixed to the bike? I have one as well, but not fitted yet as it seems to need different hardware (the seat came without except for a little plexiglass block. Thanks!

It looks like Bert have the standard model............

I would guess that your low version needs the same mounting parts as the
BMW low version, and it's intended to be a straight swap.

My pants are BMW and they don't show any wear. Only the seat.
This is what happen when you always shift your body weight to keep the sidecar on the ground.

About the Russel, this is a standard one. It's higher than a stock seat, and even if I am 6' tall, I barely put my feet flat on the ground.
If you are under 6ft, do not consider the standard seat but at least the low one.
I had stock seat, BMW comfort seat, Corbin and Russell. The Russell is the best of all.

Rene, if yours is an original low seat base it will have a D ring at the front and two slots on either side up towards the rear and no other mounting points.

If that is the case you need all THESE bits, minus the seat

I've had an offer of the rubber bit for the tank (dunno if he has the rest) from a bloke in Sydney off the FB page called Jono, I don't know if hes on here. Does the low seat lock in with the front ring? So I'm guessing to lift it you do so from the back?

You lift the seat in front and slide it forward to release it from the rear hooks.

About the rubber part on the tank, did read somewhere that it only fits the K75 tank.
.....I would guess this is related to mounting lugs for the battery covers, which
isn't present on the K75 models.

If you want some detailed pics of the low seat and bits, let me know

Looking at my setup, the rubber tank cover fits both 100 & 75 tanks.
The main difference between the tanks that I can see is underneath at the seam. The 75 tank is narrower at the rear and as Inge said the75 tank is missing the rear cover mounts.

The rubber part on the tank will fit any tank.  I've got one on my K100 sidecar.  It doesn't use the sidecover mounts at all, there is a stick on mount that goes at the rear and a stick on mount for each side to hold the sides of the cover in place, plus a circular clip that clips to the frame tubes on each side for the lower section.

Low seat bits.

This shows the two rear mounting clips/lugs/things. The rear of the seat has a slot in each side on the base. You slide backwards so these go into the slots on the seat.
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3411

The front mount. This is in three parts. The main part goes on top of the efi holder (no longer an underseat tray) and under the frame. The four allen bolts hold the top clamps and secures it to the frame.
The release mechanism is via that metal rod on the left side.
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3412

This lever is attached to the other end of the metal rod. You push it down, it pulls the rod and releases the front of the seat
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3413

This is how the rear of the tank rubber is held on. The clips just slip over the frame. They have two small screws holding them on. My second rubber surround has them broken off. It would not be too hard to re make the clips with a bit of spring steel.
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3414

Another view of the locking mechanism. And the underseat tray thingy
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3415

The rubber mounted to the tank
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3422

The rubber attachment point. The brown smudge on the right side of the tank is where the side mounting clips should be if this bike had them fitted. They were gone before I got the bike.

The seat and tank surround on the 1100. Perfect fit for a short arse like me.
Russell Day long low seat. Dsc_3420

Tank mounting parts and seat lock/release lever. (sorry, but you can't have them)
The big flat one sits at the back of the tank and the rubber bolts to it.
Two triangle bits go on the sides of the tank and the rubber surround has a slot that slides into the gap and stops it flapping in the breeze.

Thats a great Map of the bits I need Rossko, thanks.

I've got a Rubber pad from the UK for just £15. So its efi holder and the other the clips and release machanism I need. Smashing. Some are of the opinion it will be too low down bum for me (5'11" or 1.79m), we'll seeRussell Day long low seat. Smooni10.

Thanks again.

Hi 88KE,

When I got my 84 k100RS the standard seat cover was ripped so I took the easy way out and had 3 inches shaved off the standard sponge by a local upholsterer and had a new cover made. £45.00 job done. Then had a holiday 1500 mile round trip with no problems.

Cheers,

Steve.
