Hi Charlie,

Rick sent me a message at 7.22 and you were 7.55 so I guess it goes to him.

It has got a screen but I don't think it looks good and it is in a huge carton of stuff that came with the partially stripped bike. i'll have a better look tomorrow.

i haven't got the engine no. yet but it's an 86 RT that had a motor replacement. The guy then failed to pay any progress payments to the mechanic at Hellensburgh so it was never completed and a lot of parts just ended up in a big carton. He wanted $500 and it out quickly.
i suspect that stuff is missing (can't see the speedo drive) so it's just not worth trying to put it all back together again.
Has got good tyres and motor and plenty of other good stuff. i'll just use the gear on my RSs.

Next issue will be what to do with the frame.

and on a happier note.
My R80 went today WOO HOO.

never had a bike that i wanted to get rid of so much. Other people might like them but this one was jinxed.

After getting a K75 and the RSs I just couldn't be bothered with it.

I had an R80RT for a few years and it could never have become a favourite, It was about as exciting as a bowl of custard.
Mind I was coming from the Kawasaki Z1300 to it and it sure was a drop in performance although I must admit it did handle a touch better but nowhere near the fun to ride.

If Charlie wants the fairing then by all means . I just didn't want to see it chucked out.

Exactly. I lost total interest the day I got on a K75S.

So what should I do with the frame.

And that explains why my old airhead is sitting partially disassembled in the back shed.

It also explains why I have a spare 75S Very Happy

Don't throw it I will take it and hang it up in the shed, I have been thinking of putting together a naked K100 for a hack

A spare ?

And meanwhile i've been looking everywhere for a red K75S. Saw one in Manly the other day but.......

One in Albany W A  a couple of weeks ago but it went quickly. All geared up for the long ride home but the winds were bad. You'd think that you'd have a nice westerley tailwind but not so. Mostly from the south and a couple of thousand kms of crosswind drives you crazy.
My mate jokes that the further away they are, the more interest I show, so not content with waiting for one to come up at Shark Bay, i bought one in Buena Vista CO.

There was a Marrakesh Red 75S (175K km) on Ozziebay recently and currently two late models (3 spoke wheels) on bikesales.  Both in Mexico (NSW/Vic).  The latter one is overpriced.

Both mine are Marrakesh red and in answer to your question.  Sorry, but no.

My old airhead, is just waiting in the queue for a bit of TLC, so not going anywhere.

Broke the RT down today so will box up all the fairing type stuff for who ever is getting it (Rick or Charlie)
Do you want ALL bits of fairing - bins etc

Sorry Charlie, the screen is ratshit.

Frame is amazingly small and light but the heavy buttressing around the steering head is evident.

Will look tomorrow and see what the engine number is ( replacement engine) because that will be interesting.

Can't see a frame number - where is it.  What's to stop the compliance plate being tsfd to another frame if no frame no stamped on frame.

Is the X shaped fairing support bolted to the front of the headstock common to both RS and RT?

What should I do to "mothball" engine. Oil down plugs etc?

A bit of a relief to know that when you're pulling all the stuff off, you don't have to make constant mental notes on how to fit it together again. Maybe this is what the guy at the mortuary experiences when he starts cutting out organs. Just chuck it all back in the chest cavity and sew it up. Easy peasy.

frame number is on the right hand  member leading up to the rear shock from the rear of the engine right next to the compliance plate

the tree  ( x frames )  are different between the rt and rs   the rs sits a bit lower.. but the same mount points

perhaps drape an oil impregnated sheet - towel over the motor itself ...the atmosphere generated slows corrosion a fair bit ...but stains aluminium a little .

pull the rubber bits and throttle bodies off  so the height of the assembly is a lot smaller ...plug the lower rubbers to the head  cloth does well here ...and also the exhaust ports

just some thoughts

bins and plastics around the head - tank area are good things to have ...

do you need a hand stripping it ?

cheers

Nah, tks Charlie, all done. started at 10 and all fin by 4.

I'll put the X bracket in the box, but unfortunately I don't know just how much of the fairing there is since lots of small bits were already in a box when i got it and i only unbolted the main unit.
I'll leave it to you and Rick to sort out who's getting the stuff.

A pity to take a bike off the road and wreck it but there was just too much work in getting it all back together and i couldn't be sure that i wouldn't have to spend more money sourcing possible missing bits.

The owner must have been a bit of a clown because he snapped the drive shaft when he just let the whole backend DROP. I hope that this didn't damage the gearbox output shaft !!

Now have to get to work resurrecting RS #2 but at least i know that the engine is good.
