Hi All, bike has been stored for last 9 months. Have kept battery charged with trickle charge. Went to push starter button lights all dimmed on dash. Tried again still the same result. Had a look on previous threads and tested first the starter relay with  a direct contact to relay from battery  and starter turned the motor over with no probs. Did notice lights did not fade when pushing starter button. Could this be a problem relay causing this as I thought lights would generally dim with load shed. Tested wires from starter button was 9volts and now 4. Then after a short period I tried to start it again a woa it started. I let it run for a while turned it off and tried again and sure enough back to lights dimming and frustration. The fuel pump works when button pushed now checking battery and its down to 12.3 volts and advice would be well received Coopz

Not expert on this but.....

Load shed relay cuts the power to the lights etc.

But my thoughts are with a bad earth as in intermittent. Especially as you tried the direct route and the starter worked ok. The lights dim when you pressed the starter button, so the switch should be ok too unless you have an erratic contact meaning lights dim sometimes. You have earth to gear box above the gear lever, also earths under fuel tank, all worth checking. Also a clean of the contacts at the multi-pin connector to the ICU ECU.

While I am thinking of the brushes in the starter motor they are easy to get at and clean. Doesn't take long and if they are in trouble and a repair kit is cheap and an easy fix.

A little alert though. Had a battery problem in the car a few weeks back. Not enough power. Suspected a cell might be low, checked and sure enough one low cell. Charged it up and it tested fine. Showing correct volts and alternator charging ok, no battery drain. Still a no go. Decided on a new one as it was in the car 9 years. Problem solved. Despite being good the cranking power for starting was only about 25% of what was needed. A much closer look revealed one cell was really bad. 12.3 is low too.

Sounds like a dirty connection on the battery or earth at the gearbox earth point.
