Hi all, I removed the exhaust header nuts off of my new to me K1 and the header pipe to the #4 pot fell on the ground. I believe broken welds are not that unusual, however, are they repairable? Is it normally the #4 pot or can any of them fail? Gonna be a bit of a bugger to get the weld right round so if anyone has done this or has practical suggestions I would appreciate it.
The stainless cover on the muffler has a ding in it and was wondering if anyone has removed it for repairs? There are two rivets that I guess are what holds this to the can. Any other fastenings as I can't see anything else? Any insight as to what is going on here would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help

Hi Kiwi 100...K1 should be 16 Valve and hence a single piece exhaust which has a tendency to crack where the headers attach the collector...anyhow I heard recently that K100 headers which disconnect from the muffler can be used instead.

Good luck.KKlompy

K1's have the same exhaust as K100 16V and also K1100 16v so may be  a good option to look for a spare one.

My k1100 when I got it last year had a loose header pipe (can't recall which one), it had not completely separated.

I brought to a professional stainless welder and he repaired it and after that I did a 3500 km trip round the Nordics :-)

Another option as previously mentioned is to use the separate pipes and silencer from an 8v but being a K1 I assume you want to keep it original.

Note: It is important to replace the rubber mount to stop these pipes cracking.

Good luck with the repair.

Some years ago I had the same sort of problem with my K1100 exhaust. Although the pipe wasn't completely disconnected, I made a bracing piece from suitable thick steel plate. This was drilled so that the headers could be bolted to it to maintain alignment. A professional welder who had experience of making exhaust systems for racing cars had no problem welding the pipe back together.

Thanks for the advice guys, I made an alignment jig a couple of years back for my K100 4V and kept it (as you do) so this will come in handy again to keep the headers aligned while it is welded
