Hey K bods.

I saw my nephew last night who was all frothed up over his new headphones he's ordered. He gets his come April. They are being crowd funded (so only the intrepid have already ordered them) and are coming online soon as I understand.

The only question for us K folk I guess, is how an ear bone mic will sound from inside a helmet. Not being familiar with Helmet bluetooth stuff, but having some experience with ear bone stuff, I'm dying to know how well this stuff'd work.

I'm also of the school that EMR right next to the brain is't maybe the healthiest thing for our most important organ, (though I would probably kill the affected bits off, most friday nights anyhoo).

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Dash. Too good to be true? Only time will tell.

THE DASH

This looks great, but I just saw something that would be an inconvenience on a motorcycle....
The Dash has a touch sensitive surface that let you control the device.
Does that mean that we have to drill holes in our helmet?
Price is a bit stiff too... (US)$300 affraid

Yes CF,

My guess is that you would definitely have to have a dash mounted phone set up to take calls whilst the Brick is flying.

Price? Not that much more than setting up a bluetooth helmet I would've thought, considering what else you get. Wonder if the speed is displayed on your phone. Cool.

But heres a question for all others with an RS fairing.

I bought  a Shark helmet as they claim to be sonically well isolated and the reviews backed it up, I thought it was poor until I realised that the fairing was much of the problem.

The wind turbulence I find deafening off this particular fairing. It's the height. If I stand, I'm in clear air and if I duck down I'm behind the fairing these two positions are much quieter than a normal riding posi. So in ear headphones or earplugs generally get rid of some of the buffeting (although a lot of the noise is mechanically transferred via the earlobes and or helmet, I used moulded mute plugs currently)
I commute on the K and when I arrive at work I'm expected to record sound all day and monitor quality, so I don't want to be "hearing fatigued" first thing in the morning.

Does anybody else using this fairing struggle hearing traditional blue tooth set ups. ie helmet mounted speakers (headphones)?

Sorry if I've speared off on a tangent.

Jez.

The visor on my RT was doing the same. Drove me up the wall with the noise from the turbulance. I replaced it with a much smaller 350mm high piece of toughened acrylic sheet. Looks better imo and little to no turbulance/noise.

I have an RS and, yes indeed, the fairing is just a little short for my 5'11" frame and I usually get the wind right between the eyes.  I just go faster.  I have a Sena bluetooth set up and have the speakers in my Bell Evo helmet and have no problem hearing.  The pockets for the speakers are no where near where my ears are (who designed that?!) so I just positioned them right by my ears and have no problem hearing my music or my buddy talking to me.
There is a nice aftermarket fairing for the RS.  A bit pricey but a couple of riders I communicate with say it's the hot set up for the RS.

Reading further on this today, (the Dash that is) There was talk of head movement phonecall answering.
ie with a nod or a quick yaw of the noggin.

There seems to be a shortage of true reviews as the full operational model has not been available to the gadget press. There are plenty of gushing accounts of what it will do but none of what has been acheived in getting all the features into such a tiny device. A touch of the Howard Hughes as one reviewer put it.

I for one though hope they do pull off there intended design.

Jez.
