Quick question (since I typed out a long post yesterday and my laptop overheated and shut down before I had chance to post it!) has your K got a name? Or even any other vehicles you have?

My K100 is called 'Kylie' as a friend of mine has said the panniers wobble slightly when I go over bumps and I said "She's 'twerking' at you!" so decided I should name her after a lady with a rather nice backside who may possibly do likewise!

Wink

I also have a Land Rover Discovery called 'Winnie' since part of the registration number is 'KAC' so therefore named after 'Winnie the Pooh!'

um ....of corse

"steve"   a Austin 1800 .....in the late 70s ...(great car actually ...once I fixed it up a little )   as in Steve Austin the million dollar man...  guess it was a 70s thing

"duke "  a 60s version ducati scrambler... no other reason

but "Gerty "  ( gertrude von clickandshift) is my first Bavarian mistress of the k100 variety ... in the vein of "ride of the Valkyries" with armoured breast plate and all ...and for some hideous,  but for many a close friend with exceptional qualities hidden behind that big brash "rt"  fairing (breast plate with instant recognition ?)

Only one, the sidecar I bought in 94 and ended up giving the bike to Rick for spares before the house demolishers cleaned up my block.  That bike had gone through many iterations and was simply called "the black girl".  Some of you maybe blessed to have parts from her on your own bikes.

My RS sidecar just gets called "the outfit"
The 100RS-16v gets called "the 16 valve" or "the 16" (Marie understands the lingo)

When I had a '66 Jaguar S-Type it was just "the Jaag" (in best Jeremy Clarkson voice), can't think of a car that came close to having a name otherwise.

And I agree, them Austin 1800s were good things, had 2 of them myself in the 70s.

Al

Pfeil, is what I dreamed up for the 75, something to do with its performance on the road.

However its rather awkward and no-one knows what I'm on about so usually

The Mini Brick amongst bikers is as close to a name as I get.

No name for the K yet. I'll have to ask my son. He came up with a good name for my boat:  C:\ Sea Drive   in honour of a big part of my work.
Any suggestions for a red 1985 K100 RT would be welcome.
Bill

like it says in the signature line below. "The Bullion Brick", partly because of the colour but mostly because of the owning, riding and camaraderie experiences it has added to my life in the past 5 years.

Low Flying Brick (LFB) because I find it remarkably easy to aviate, despite the weight. It comes off the deck much easier than the far lighter 600 Bandit that I have.

In the past most of my Guzzis have had names. Some I forget but two I'll always remember; the V1000G5 that was stolen and torched was Myvanwy II and the 1000SP that dumped me on a roundabout in Dublin docks was The Black Bitch.

"Katie" is my 29 y/o mistress. or K-T  first and last letters of K 100 rT.
I'm getting too old (63) to switch for a younger one without sparkling rumors by envious stallions.
She will survive me in the long run cause I'll take good care of her.

My 2000 Transporter Van goes by the name of "Highway Star II" (the second) in memory of my DAF fourgonette "Highway Star" that I drove in 1975 (named after the famous Deep Purple hit).

My sailboat name is "Bas" (original name since 1968) and doesn't mean anything, and was chosen by the first owner for it's simplicity to voice over the marine VHF in internationl code :  Bravo Alpha Sierra.

My red RS I call the Frequent Flyer because it's red...so that automatically means that it's fast.

My now nekkid RT is called Barge Arse, named after a rather portly detective in a Aussie TV show years and years ago.

But I may have to transfer the Barge Arse title to my next bike (K100 RT) that may soon be in my garage.

Never named my bikes until I bought the RS.

(ex) Mrs had a Toyota Liteace called Vixin.

Had a '89 Toyota Corolla 4WD called Lucy.

The K gets called 'The Beast' (which is a tad lame, but seems apt) or 'Bob Marley and the Wailers', from Al-58, due to the Rastafarian colours Wink Which cracks me up.

Has anyone read any of The Culture series, by the late great Iain M Banks? I love the names of the interstellar ships in those books. They are conscious and autonomous and largely choose their own names, like:

- Prostehtic Conscious
- Nervous Energy
- No More Mr Nice Guy
- The Hand of God #137
- Screw Loose
- Just Read The Instructions
- Of Course I Still Love You
- Youthful Indiscretion
- Gunboat Diplomat
- Size Isnt Everything
- Bad for Business
- Dramatic Exit, or Thankyou and Goodnight

Classic books. Some laugh out loud 'Douglas Adams' moments, mixed with some wonderfully inventive space epicness.

I've got most of the Culture Series on audiobook - audiobooks make a really good accompaniment to an afternoon of building bikes. Iain Banks' mode of space opera is actually believable because a lot of it is a far extension of current technology.

My K100RT is called Rudolf

So named by it's previous owner, my dad, because he was Father Christmas. He had a real white beard, a real big belly and would go round local primary schools every year and play the role.

Some of the kids ended up believing longer than they would normally because they'd seen the same man every year!

I had an old Ural outfit a few years ago and I would dress as an elf and ride round with him dresses as Father Christmas on Christmas day waving to all the kids as we rode by. Happy memories Smile

My old black R65 is called "The Wombat" due to its handling, or lack of it.

When I first acquired my 75S in Germany, I called it "Die Rot Baron".  In comparison to The Wombat it flew through the European Alps.

My "new" K100 is called BOB.

Stands for Blue Old Bike.

Anyone who wants to dispute the reasoning for the name will be, as my dear departed mother used to say, treated with ignore!

Bill

ComberJohn's Ghost is now (temporarily and unimaginatively) 'Brick2' until it (or I) does something stupid enough to merit a name change.

Years ago, when that movie about an Orca, Free Willy, was released in the UK, wasn't there a bit of a row and the title got changed?

Yeah - some dickhead thought the name would corrupt poor innocent little kids. No, it remained under its original title.

I've often wondered how well-intentioned censors think poor little Johnny will go blind if he sees uncovered nipples on the tele but a full frontal shotgun blast to the chest is his perfectly acceptable entry to manhood.

@Grizzly wrote:Quick question (since I typed out a long post yesterday and my laptop overheated and shut down before I had chance to post it!) has your K got a name? Or even any other vehicles you have?

My K100 is called 'Kylie' as a friend of mine has said the panniers wobble slightly when I go over bumps and I said "She's 'twerking' at you!" so decided I should name her after a lady with a rather nice backside who may possibly do likewise!

Wink

I also have a Land Rover Discovery called 'Winnie' since part of the registration number is 'KAC' so therefore named after 'Winnie the Pooh!'

Rolling Eyes

Might want to be careful there, the wobbling could be an early warning......the BMW panniers, unlike Kylie' appendages, are known to have a habit of tossing themselves off falling off.

88KE more recently referred to my RT as Willy Wonka, due to the registration letters WW. I should be grateful for some consideration considering the choice that was available to him.

Oi...I resemble that remark  Laughing.

My "new-to-me" K1100rs has been christened "Rudolf Von Schmurf". Rudolf because on its red nose cone, Smuf...well nothing to do with my ageing beard and a red hat I'm sure.

This has already been shortened to Rudie...nothing to do with noisy leaking air (from a cracked header)  Twisted Evil

If an RS becomes Rudolf von Smurf what does an RT become?

My K100rs doesn't have a name yet, though I think it might be Gruber, after the german bad guy in Die Hard. Time will tell if the name sticks.

My 1940 Royal Enfield WD C/O is named Flynn, and my 1942 Chevy Truck is named Grover.

I thought it might have been named after Leftenant Gruber from Allo Allo with his "little tank"
