I am searching for a throttle cable compatible with my 1986 K100RT. I had a leaky fuel injector that sparked a minor fire and subsequently melted up my throttle cable. I need a replacement and will pay a fair price.

32 73 1 457 016 is the part number for production dates up to 6/86 and
32 73 1 457 378 from 7/86 on. About US$40 and $30 respectively at your local dealer. But be careful...if the bike has had the throttle body bracket end update as it will use the later cable. Or available from Beemer Boneyard. Part numbers BB 32731457015 or 32731457378 for $12 to $15 plus postage.

Can you give me an idea of how I would identify whether or not the bike has had the body bracket end updated?

Thank you for the reply and information!

No, not really, but it looks like this and is at the middle of the TB rack - remove the left hand side fairing panel to access it, which you'll have to do anyway to replace a cable. Specifically, it's the angle and the thickness or length of the cylindrical part of the bracket that makes the difference. It had to do with ease of throttle pull and adjustment.

HERE is a link to the realoem catalogue where you can look items like this up.

Another way to suss it out is to look at the sleeve on your original cable for signs of a BMW part number. 32 73 1... and such
