Low beam should work without engine running but only if lights are turned on.

All lights, indicators, brake lights etc should work when you have ignition switched on and the kill switch set to live but without engine running. When you press the starter button the load shed relay kicks in and disconnects them while the starter is turning, as soon as it fires they will come on again.

What is the status of your lights when the engine is not running?

Good luck with the renovations too, hope we might see you out soon....

When you have lights switched on at the right hand they should work. No lights then a problem in there, first off check your earths and the handlebar switchgear connectors under the tank.

The handlebar switch gear does sometimes give trouble but check other things first. If no headlight comes on does the rear light come on?

Dual filament headlight?  And the low beam filament is blown?

Replace headlight bulb, with access from the rear of the headlight unit.

There are 2 distinct power feeds to the headlight First is the power to the right switch which is then switched to the left switch for high and low beam and the tail light. Second is power to the left switch to run the high beam flash.
Firstly check the fuses with a meter as they will sometimes seem OK but will be open circuit due to corrosion.
If you go to the portal you can get some wiring circuits for your model that are interactive and will show the relevant circuit highlited with the colours.  If you need a manual PM me and you will get a link to a very good one.

Since neither the headlight or taillight does function the problem must be
in the RHS switch assy or it's connector...as the power feed to tail/headlight
is split on this side.

The switch assy connector you find under the tank (biggest connector RHS),
check that power is present at the green/blue wire (check on both sides of
the connector).....if power is present the problem is in the switch assy.

If it's anything like the last one I stripped and cleaned you may just find shite on the hi/lo contacts. The nice thing about these switches is that they really are easy to take to pieces and reassemble.

If you have power at the white/yellow wire up to the LHS switch, but no
tail light...it seems like you have two separate problems.

The headlight problem is then located to the LHS switch assy (quite common),
the tail light problem can be anywhere between the RHS switch assy and the
bulb itself.

Thanks for all the advice.

Thought i would give update. It was the left switch causing the issue and was full of crud. Stripped it down cleaned and now all works as it should.

The problem with the rear side light was a broken wire at the rear which was easily fixed so all working again, happy days  Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Excellent result.

If you don't have a relay on the headlight give a thought to fitting one.......
