About 40 years ago my cousin bought a Triumph Trident T150. The night we went to view it, I took it for a test ride. Out the road I met an Avenger cop car coming against me, with three cops in it. I was passing a filling station and when I looked in my mirror I saw them swinging across the road into the forecourt. Since my insurance to ride a 750 was questionable, I decided to get out of there fast. I banged the Trident down two gears and took off, made a few left turns and drove straight back into the sellers garage, and told him to close the door fast!!
As for Hillman Avengers, a standard 1300 was good for 80 mph, a 1600 around 90, and a GT a bit more. A Tiger was good for over 100. They had excellent handling, and made great rally cars with very little modification. I rallied the one in my avatar for 21 years, on and off, as funds permitted.

I was a bit 'all or nothing' and I wanted the Honda 4 and that was it. It was a bit of a change from the CD175 but it too did what it said on the tin and I will do without until I get what I want.

Funny thing is the K doesn't make you feel there will be something better out there.

In 1977, I was a bike dealer selling all Italian(Ducati, Guzzi, Laverda, Moto Morini) and British bikes(Norton and Triumph). Few years earlier, the Saudi Arabia government has bought 1,000 tridents to equip it's police force. After few years, the bikes were still in crates and the government decided to buy the Honda 750 for the police forces.
The old/new tridents were put for auction and a dealer in the Netherlands acquired the whole lot.
I was able to buy few of them at a very good price and sold them to my customers. The deal was: no warranty and I rented my workshop for the customers to assemble the bike.
Whoaa, 1977 is almost 40 years ago. I must be getting old too.

Remember an article in the British bike press about them, Bert.
Didn't they call them the Triumph Cardinal?

Don't you love this extract:
As a Triumph man Mark had always badly wanted a T160, but when one came up there was a serious problem. Mark was engaged at the time and the lady told him it was the Triumph or her. Errrr... no contest. Mark called a mate with a van to move him out and shortly afterwards bought the T160.

I had forgotten this one, being engrossed in the Hurricane.

You missed one for sale on donedeal.ie recently Olaf. Okay, so it was fitted with an A75R engine rather than a T150 but who's going to quibble about numbering? It went for £4100 somewhere up near Coleraine.

How about his one......

An engineer was removing the engine parts from a motorcycle when he saw a famous heart surgeon in his shop...
He went to him & said.. "Look at this engine... I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired and put them back"...So why do I get such a small salary? and u get huge sums....!
The doctor smiled at the mechanic and came close to his ear and said.... "Try the same when the engine is running."

classic!

.
Continuation

.
.
.
.
.
.
The Mechanic smiled back came close to doctors ear and said
I can pick any dead engine and make it alive . . . . . . . But can you ???

epic revenge

You Know You're Old When you mix up the fuel hoses on your gas tank and spend a whole day figuring out why the bike wouldn't run.
In my case the older I get the more ignorant I become (Alzheimer syndrome?)

'An Evening with The Who' or 'An Evening with Led Zeppelin' just doesn't sound right.

Times change though. When Whose Next was released I remember a backlash at home when I came home with a copy.

Not so long ago out in the supermarket it's playing on the pa. Back when it was released playing it loud was enough to give ones neighbours reason to call in the drug squad or whatever.

You sure know you are getting old when everyone dreams of Tridents, Commandos etc because they have totally forgotten how frustrating they were at the time due to breakdowns.
