Hi

I have just come across and have been trying out this website and app from playstore that gives an exact (3mx3m or 9ftx9ft) location anywhere on earth. It interfaces with google maps (and its satellite view) to enable an exact meeting point (eg carpark, layby, campsite etc.)anywhere on earth!

I recommend that K owners use this system as well as any other directions to pinpoint meeting places.

Just when I thought my life was complicated enough! Smile
Good find. I'll get a look at it in more detail later.

Been having a play with it. Interesting.
Think it'll ever be available for Garmin or similar?
Now that would be fantastic.

Did two local points for the Photo Rally yesterday. No sat nav or map. Just got the general location and asked the locals for the finer details. Was invited and accepted an invitation to have  homemade bread and homemade soup in a 17th century house. Technology may not be the answer but the problem.
Follow this link and pay attention to a former university lecturer that makes perfect sense and  realise what a life of excess we all currently lead. He was seventy-nine years old when this was filmed and in spite of the way he lives will probably make 100

Good point, Tom.
I think that was my first thought, too.
It's an interesting idea but maybe for the younger mind. As I write this I'm trying to think of the three words for my home address and can't remember them.
Years ago I could remember a range of phone numbers off the top of my head and now struggle to remember my own. Thank goodness for mobiles for that.
I think that as you get older your memory fills up like a hard drive and you start to remember only the essentials.
When doing the really, I like to take a look on Google to see what it's like for access. Important on the K1600.
Like to find out a bit about the site, too.
Prefer to find my own way, if possible, with Sat nav as a back up. Don't like to drive hundreds of miles and give up.
Don't trust the sat nav either. Sometimes takes me the scenic route.

I grew up having to map read, and still enjoy doing it.
I use paper maps to plan and on my journey, especially on twisty scenic routes - use the German motor cycle maps for scenic routes.
But I also enjoy and embrace technology for the motorway planning. It complements my skill not replacing them.
The attraction of what3words is the ability to specify to a part of car park, a specific doorway. It's integration with google maps gives me an initial route and distances and timing as input for my own planning.
Using it is not lazy, part of navigation skill is using all information available.
What I dispair of is people not be able to use maps. (I find my daughter's boyfriends often  acking basic skills Exact Location for meeting 259495  - I made sure she can service and repair her car as well as read maps!  I leant by stripping and rebuilding the engine UJs,  brakes and wheel bearings of a 1959 mini in the 60st or I had no transport.)  Exact Location for meeting 112350

On the subject of memory I can no longer rely on mine especially short term so I use a small notebook - used a doubled lined child's learning exercise book to relearn handwriting skill as I could not read mine after many years of keyboard use.   :BW:

You had a mini!
I had a 1957 Austin A40. Seemed to spend most Saturday mornings trying to keep it on the road.
You learn to find your way around an engine though.
