Just saw this on Yahoo and thought it was worth a post to whet the appetite of some K riders hear abouts or encourage a few more visitors from overseas.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2975434/Scotland-s-answer-Route-66-North-Coast-500-unveiled-drivers-scenic-trip-past-fairytale-castles-beaches-ruins.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

This years ride card is quite full already....but maybe for future years...castles, rugged coastline, whisky and miles and miles of lovely twisty roads.

Definitely on my list of rides to do! Only 500 miles but not to be rushed!!

Hi Paul

Very interested in that one, also hoping to get to Orkney, but not this year as a few other trips planned.

Ringfad,

Something to plan for perhaps - but as you say, this year is already quite busy. Bit of a hike to get to the start point in Inverness, but I've got family up in those parts so definitely on the cards at some point. The good news is the route is not going to go away any time soon - and the bonus of waiting a year or so is that the castles only get more historic and the whisky even more mature!

Orkney would be a good dogleg to add to the route (ferry from Wick  Scrabster). I've been there diving at Scapa Flow several times, but never on a bike.

Righto Rosskko and Charlie, this means that at least the three of us need to go with a route like that on offer. My daughter married a Scot and even though they live in England its a good enough reason to put my hand up as interested in working towards a plan.

It seems like the adventures of the Aussie boys over there recently has sparked quite an interest from UK & Irish members in receiving visitors from down here.

Cheers

You summed it up perfectly! Very easy to fly straight to Dublin too and of course you will be very welcome. Short ferry ride from Belfast to Scotland.

Keep an eye on tales of Indian036 and TacKler.

If I'm in a position to do this ride ever, I'm in.  I've been on a lot of those roads (in a car), including the Orkneys and vowed to come back on a bike some time.  We got lucky with the weather too (March/April).

However the 29YO job is now looking shaky, so we'll have to see what the future offers.

Did a whole lot of that going anticlockwise with a mate last year but went back inland after Ullapool to Inverness (again) and then on to Fort William. We were running out of time by then and decided to stick to main roads which was a shame as the west of Scotland is really incredible. We'll have to go back soon.

I'd be very interested too, but I might have to do it in a car, as my wife will want to do it as well but doesn't do riding or pillion.

I could possibly borrow the son-in-law's BMW. Steering wheel on the wrong side for Scotland, but being BMW, will that count?

Bill

Scotland? I thought that was gone. Didn't they vote recently to become Northern England??
