Man dies after motorcycle crash - Silverton

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after the death of a man riding a motorcycle at Silverton yesterday.

About 7.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 March 2015) a 27-year-old man was riding a Honda motorcycle on the Silverton Road towards the Mundi Mundi lookout.

As the rider passed over the crest of a hill he collided with a Mack prime mover being driven by a 50-year-old man.

The rider, who is believed to be a US national, was thrown some distance by the impact and appears to have died immediately.

Emergency services were contacted and police from Barrier Local Area Command attended.

The officers established a crime scene and spoke with several witnesses to the crash.

Both vehicles have been seized for further forensic examination and inquiries into the incident continue.

Investigators believe that film fans were in the area attempting to recreate scenes from a movie (Mad Max).

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner outlining the full circumstances of the man’s death.

Maybe the driver of the mack was a little tired of the mad max maniacs and decided to recreate a bit of drama himself. If he did then give him a medal.

If a US citizen, perhaps he was on the wrong side of the road?

Sometimes I just completely lack sympathy.

There's no winners in a story like this but if they were trying to re-enact a movie scene I am reminded of a recently picked up quote.....

In late-December of '07, whilst riding from Queensland, over on the ferry to Devonport, then round Tassie for two weeks on my '77 Airhead (it snowed up on Ben Lomond on Xmas eve - this is Summertime, remember) I was slowly trolling through Bicheno, looking for a place to stop for brekky after camping the night previous, when a mad rider pulled up, gesturing friendly-like and said something to me I couldn't quite understand, smiling through his beard, with his odd-in-Tassie accent. I enquired about food. He gestured to two places. I picked one. He was later parked up at the other. I should've gone there. It might well have been him.
