I am in a very depressed state at the moment. The RS has suffered a catastrophic drive shaft.
It was a sorry sight to see it being winched, with a locked back wheel, into the recovery truck.
Getting it out and safely into a storage unit was interesting.
Fortunately nobody died in the making of this little drama.
The bike is gonna be in storage for some time as I do not have the correct facilities or time to do anything with it at the moment.
So the Airhead will be pressed back into service until a suitable replacement is sourced.
Went to look at an 85RT today but it needed too much to be used immediately. With a 4 times a week commute of 100 miles each way I need something that can be used without any worry.

Anyway, Happy Christmas everyone.

Sorry to hear that E M.  Not what you want happening at Christmas - but then not really what you want happening anytime.
Good that you didn't get dumped on the road.

any warning of impending doom?

Bummer EM. Especially with the house move etc. (how's that working out?) Have trailer for transporting dead K's if it's of any help let me know.

Hope you'll get to the 27th by any means, it'd be good to catch up.

Will

The first indications of impending doom was when I throttled off on approach to a roundabout, There was a loud metal on metal grinding from directly below my left leg. It sounded to me like splines slipping, but I could be wrong.
I turned around and headed gingerly back into town and it was fine at first on a very light throttle but then the noise started to creep in while on the throttle. I pulled in to a stop and when I tried to pull off there was no drive and when I went to push the bike off the road I found that the back wheel was locked up, even when I pulled in the clutch.
Unfortunately Will and Olaf I can't make the 27th due to family commitments. But I have been given a pass out on sunday the 28th for a day out on the GS in the forests of south Tipperary with some off road riding buddies. So at the very least that should keep me from going completely insane.
As for the house move Will, we are still in the rented shoebox with all my tools and spares in the lockup. I fear that the RS will not get touched until we are in our own place, which probably won't be until the end of next summer. Crying or Very sad

Hi Steve

Sorry to hear you are K less again, if you need anything let me know.

The only part I might have that would help you is the shaft but this sounds much worse than that.

Have a Happy Christmas.

Hey Olaf

Unfortunately still K-less, no likelihood of it being rectified in the short term. Probably gonna get an Oilhead boxer to replace the K for the commute.
Took a look at a 75s last week but it wasn't suitable for immediate use and 800 miles a week so I had to pass on it.
The K will rise again at some point.

If you want a really good K75 S with luggage ect and in excellent condition and ready to go let me know. Not sure how much you want to spend, but can be viewed in Dub. If you want further details or if you've bought an oilhead already let me know.

And 88KE has a K75 as well.........oh, the final drive and so on went straight onto the K100 for our trip to France.....so if the K75 is not quite ideal it may be a short term repair solution for being Kay less.......But don't let lack of a K keep you from coming out.

I'm now actively looking for another K, preferably a 100, good mechanical condition, reasonably priced. Does anyone have any leads or a surplus bike...(Simon).

There's this, Steve.
http://www.usedcarsni.com/1987-BMW-K-series-S-143274098
Bit rich , for me anyway, but maybe a bad offer? It does say offers and it looks sound.
A car dealer will want it shifted quick.
I can take a look at it for you if you are interested.
