Hi, I bought my K100rt in January, and the latches (which do NOT have key locks) on each of the panniers broke, looks like they were rarely opened and the metal parts cracked. The bike is a 1985 model, and the boxes are original BMW touring... any ideas on replacing them ? TheBMW dealer wants a lot for replacements, which have keys, but look the same size....or maybe somebody has a set to offer ??

Both types of latches simply rivet to the panniers. The earlier type use a lift-up rectangular lid over the keyhole and a simpler key while the later version use a traditional key - the same type as your ignition - which can be matched by a less than clever locksmith. The superior later type will retro to the early type pannier and will, of course, cost more initially. TD5's link shows both for comparo purposes.

Hi Mark

I was down your way yesterday evening but didn't see the bike parked outside- I called in to see if the panniers were on it.

There are a few sets of panniers around in the Eccentrics, we might be able to sort something.

Olaf.

I can't lock the panniers so they are sitting on my floor at the mo, but I think a replacement set would be best as the work and cost to replace 4 locks won't be worth it, but I'd like to see what's out there :-)
O

I have purchased all the bits, hinges and locks with keys from Motobins UK. Mine were broken in and off on the grass Burt Munro Rally camping ground as well as the plastic pannier, broken in 3, which I got successfully plastic welded up. Duck tape got me home. Broken Panniers! Alien
