Don't know how it happened but my right hand side panel has gone missing it only had 2 bungs on it and didn't have the clip that went behind the rear fairing. Anyway my bike is a silver k100RS (84).

Can't really find any side panels in silver, however I'm thinking of just getting any old side panel. However is there any difference between the years Question

You must look for a cover from a -83 to -85 year model.

Also, forget trying to get one with an intact lower bracket (from your description I think yours might have been missing anyway). I'm talking about the one that slides over the spike welded to the tube down to the gearbox. It's easy enough to fabricate your own to do the job. I bent up two L-brackets out of thin alloy and bolted them to the side-panel with two 3mm screws. With hindsight, I could have used only one. Another way would be just to glue the new bracket to the back of the sidepanel. Thick plastic card would do the job too.

Damn that's what I feared guess I've stumbled upon the rocking horse part at the moment for this bike.

To be honest I was looking for anything didn't really mind about that bit, although I've got a feeling that contributed to it being lost. However I'll keep that in mind if I do happen to find a panel for it. At the moment it's literally anything that will fit to just cover the exposed wires.

The early ones are getting harder to find now but keep an eye on eBay. They do turn up fairly regularly.
Remember, its NOT the ones with the rod at the rear of the panel. That's the later one.

Motobins have a new one in primer for £ 54,-.

Guess my googling skills are not as good as I thought Embarassed , will order the motobins one right now. Keep forgetting about the specific BMW websites, having owned Japanese bikes before; normally first and last call was ebay or wemoto.

The grey panel is the 1984-1985 model with two bungs and a bottom bracket that the steel spindle on the frame slides through.
The black panel is from a 1986 production bike with one bung, one hook (at bottom) and a spindle that slides into the rear fairing tail section.

When fitting/removing the early sidepanels, get your hand behind the panel to push the bracket with the rubber grommet along the frame peg.

Just pulling the sidepanel will break the bracket.

Paul.

Believe mine may be broke already the left hand side (that's remaining) kinda rocks when it's on the bike. Just held on by two bungs.
