Where can I order online the starter PushButton for my K100RS 8V. The old one is broken.

I'll stick my neck out and say that you cannot buy just the button, unless you buy a new right side switchblock assembly and wiring.

Or you can buy a second hand switchblock just to get a starter button. You run the risk of not knowing how fragile the second hand button is.

Search the Forum as this has been discussed previously.

Good luck.

If you come a cross a hoard of them, tell us!

Part number 61 31 1 459 462 (US$132.92*) will get you the right hand side combi assembly with headlight switch for K100RS. The green button and the red lever are not available separately.

That's about all my salary (GHC 667)  as a senior high school physics teacher. Smile
BTW, I did a little modification by passing a screw from the top of the cap into the little metal that makes contact with the leads. The pushbutton protrudes more, but it works just fine. My only concern is longevity. I hope I get a new one from an abandoned K here before the modification gives up.
Thanks all for your reply.

I had a similar thing happen to me about 10 years ago. A screw went in and then I covered the top of the screw with a plastic cap....or you could use the black plugger part in a syringe or needle. The bike is still in use except I have a different colour cap. In Australia certain plastics do not last long...especially the starter button.

Mine in OZ karked it soon after purchase. I glued it back together with 3M weatherstrip cement until the entire assembly died a death a few years later. Necessity is and always will be the mother of invention.

I think the major concern is that water can get into the switch block and cause other problems.
I stuck a plunger rubber from a 5ml syringe over mine. Been there for nearly a year now no probs.

Had the same problem, and was lucky enough to find a guy parting-out a bike, and sold me the right-hand switches for $20.  And yeah, the only part that I used was that little green button.  Of course now I have an extra red kill switch lever, and some wiring that I'll keep but never use.

The green starter button would be an ideal candidate for 3D Printing.  Now that I think of it, it would be great to set up an archive area of this forum for 3D Printing files... for this and other small plastic parts.

The '85 K100RS I purchased 12 months back had a nice IP65 rated push button switch assembly installed in the bore normally used for mounting the rear view mirror on naked and K75C models. Easy job to reroute the wires, switch is not inaccessible and water proof as all hell.

Might have to get one of them made also.

looks like the brass section of the contact at the inards side is glued - heated into place ...possibly on a pike into the green button

the emergency cutoff button and green button are easily removed as an assembly but hard to separate up the core of the cutoff switch inards

maybe a cutoff wheel on a dremel could cut the outer part in half to expose the push button

ill give It ago later, if there is interest

I had a look at an assembly today, and I'd like to know how the contact is secured into the green button. Moulded, glued or something else?

Got any pics yet rosskko?

I'm thinking it may be possible to put a thread in the button and make the contact with a brass round head screw??

(It would be nice to have a blue button on the blue bike.)

Paul.

Paul, the peg is held in by friction.
It has a little knurled section on the end.
Impossible to get out unless you destroy the red switch.

I was thinking the same thing with the screw. Only thing is, if you ever have to replace the button, you probably won't have to pull it out again for another twenty years.

I have the button and switch with a design guy at work to make a model, he is talking about making a mould to make them out of more durable plastic.
Will probably do both to make a new set.
I suppose the button post could be removed by drilling it out to weaken the hold on the metal pin.

The other thing I was thinking is the spring could be cut down by 1/3. It is very strong for its role and probably has a hand in popping the top off the button
Will keep you posted

Well, I couldn't resist it, using rosskko's info, I decided to drill out the contact pin on a spare switch block. As the shaft is 2.5 mm diameter it was easy enough and the red lever stayed intact.  cheers
Starter PushButton Sam_1211

I then turned a replacement push button in brass with a 6BA thread to use a cheese head screw with it's head turned to 3.5 mm as the contact.
Etch primed and painted blue, now there's no green bits on my blue bike.  Starter PushButton 723598Starter PushButton Sam_1212

Charlie, do you think this colour matching is getting out of hand???

I suppose those of us in 'the West' need a dose of reality once in a while as to how lucky we really are, in relative terms, with options and access to parts merely a phone call or quick Google search away, and often as cheap as chips.
