Hi my rear brake hose from reservoir to master cylinder is in a sorry state could this cause brakes to fade due to excessive heat and anyone know diameter of this brake hose so I can replace it ? Cheers

Yes very definately best to get a stainless steel braided hose from Motobins. If one is cactus the rest will have prickles so if you can replace all. Brakes is one thing you cant skimp on.

Robmac is totally correct I didn't read the post properly. DOH

What sort of sorry state Mate? Is it hairline cracks in the outer of the rubber sheath or bulging, or are you having trouble bleeding the brakes due to the hose blocking up (I had this last problem on a bike I bought and had to feed a wire down the length of the hose to clear a blockage in order to be able to get fluid to flow through it). Certainly worth us all being briefed as to what can go wrong with brake hoses!

No, it's unlikely that this reservoir to MC hose will cause brake fade.  It is more likely that the MC is blocked or the hose between the MC and brake caliper blocked.  Is the brake rotor warm to the touch after a modest ride?  If so, the pads are dragging on the rotor, indicating the inability of the pads to retract.

yes disc gets hot after riding at speed then eventually pedal goes all the way down and no brake at all, leave it for a while then it starts to work again Im assuming it brake fade due to heat ? Or maybe abs modulator as abs has been disconnected via relay pulled in eleccy box I`m not sure my other idea was warped disc as brake seemed to pulse when coming to a stop ? I`m currently by passing abs modules and I ll replace master cylinder hose and see what happens. Cheers

How old it the brake fluid, old fluid boils at a lower temperature due to water and contaminants, and can cause the exact conditions, once hot, the fluid vapourizes and compresses like a gas, total loss of brakes. If the the brakes are dragging, the fluid can heat up very quickly. This hot fluid can also cause the rubber brake line to become more flexible and bulges easier which also reduces braking efficiency.

It certainly sounds like a dragging rear caliper. I gave a couple of possible causes earlier. Your problem could also be the caliper pistons are stuck. They can corrode and cause pads to drag on the rotor. I would first remove the caliper and check whether the pistons are free (Can you push the pads to retract both pistons?). If not, it is time to disassemble the calipers and refurbish them.

Next, if the calipers look fine, remove the rear MC and inspect/clean it. There is a small fluid return outlet that could get blocked.

I can't comment on the means you used to disable the ABS system. I've not had any experience with ABS on these bikes. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in. I'd recommend removing the system entirely if you plan never to use it.

Many thanks - calliper pistons seem fine as I put new pads in and they moved freely to accommodate these, doesn't appear to be dragging either as it rolls freely (maybe a little drag but nothing excessive ) gonna change fluid as no idea when last done ? I ll update on outcome when done - I`ve also got to repair bleed nipple as some numpty cross threaded it big time and now there`s no thread left - does anyone know if brembo rear calliper is the same on non abs bikes ie they just bolted an extra bit on for the abs sensor pick up ? Cheers

The caliper has the same part number (34212332459) for the ABS and non-ABS models according to RealOEM.
